George Combe Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 22 to Oct. 23, 2005.
COMBE _ George Douglas (Doug) Doug Combe, age 78, was called home on October 17, 2005. He was born April 15, 1927, in Winnipeg, Manitoba to the late Charles Victor and Jessie Combe (nee Cochrane). On April 26, 1947, he was united in marriage to Patricia (Pattie) Jane Lobb in Winnipeg, MB. Doug leaves a legacy as a doting husband, devoted father and quintessential grandfather. He was passionate about family, gardening, reading, history and entertaining with tall tales. Doug enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing the ponies and casinos. Always the consummate salesman, Doug devoted thirty-five years to P&G and exemplified the quality that "only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile." He taught his children to face life's challenges with humour and perseverance. In addition to serving in the Canadian Navy in World War II, Doug was a dedicated Mason and served the Order with honour and dignity. Affiliated with St. James Lodge No. 121 and Northmount Lodge No. 189 (AF & AM, GRM & GRA), Doug moved through the chairs until elected and installed as Worshipful Master in 1973. Happy to Meet. Sorry to Part. Happy to Meet Again! Doug was preceded in death by his beloved Pattie in 1995, his infant son, Jimmy in 1955, and numerous siblings. "This earth is not an inheritance from our ancestors, but a loan from our children." Doug is survived by his son, Tom Combe, his two daughters: Jan Combe and Doug Kraft and Judy Combe and Al McHendry; eleven grandchildren: Teresa Combe, Trent (Kristy) Booth, Clint (Ronda) Booth, Doug (Stella) Booth, Ken (Helen) Booth, Ryaan, Aaryn and Vanessa Kraft, Shaun and Trevor Bushell and Matthew Grapko; four great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn and Jacob Booth and Andrea and Sebastian Benavides; his sister, Elsie Patz, Coquitlam, BC; brother Stan Combe, Winnipeg, MB; and his "specially adopted" daughter, Rhonda Keaton. We will continue your stories, with love. At Doug's request a private Memorial Service will be held. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation No. 130, 6001 - 1A Street S.W., Calgary, AB T2G 0G5. We thank the staff of the Colonel Belcher Nursing Home for their love and support. To our beloved G.D.: all our love, now & forever: moi doi toi.
