I was a very good friend of Nila, and got the pleasure to know Bud when he stayed with his mom the last couple years of her life. I was so sad to hear of his passing, as I haven't seen him since his mom passed and I didn't know he was ill. I will always remember our little chats about his work and movies. He loved going out to eat, or some special event in Detroit and, of course, his movies. He also was always on the go, and had his cute hats on !! He had some tough times, but was always a giving person. He loved his family, and my prayers will be with all.

I first met George at the Marion YMCA in Marion, IN on 11/20/65. On that day we competed against each other in a teen-age weightlifting competition. During the next several years I would see him at competitions and also during the summer of 1968 when we trained together in Bob Matz's garage in Toledo. Later, I would read and hear of George's many record-breaking performances in the sport of powerlifting. In 1993 we met again at a Hall of Fame induction ceremony at a gym in Toledo and shared war stories. "Georgie" leaves me with many fond recollections from our younger years, memories of optimism, friendship and unbounded strength. George is a legend in powerlifting; I'm sure that I join countless others in the strength sport community as I pause to honor his memory.

I was very sorry to read in the Toledo Blade obits that George had passed. He was a good person that I had the the honor to know and work with as a member of Local 50. He always made all who knew him laugh and feel good. He will be missed by all who were touched by his short life here with us. He is now at peace.

Bud is a special kind of guy and cared about others. Growing up with him and his brother & sister was always the "great trip" to the city for our family when I was young. He always wanted to know what was going on in the "country" where we lived. The smile on his face and in his eyes when you told him, always made you feel special in life. And now being blessed with three sons of my own who will never forget Bud & have their own great memories of him, puts closure to one of my own life's heroes. I look forward to that day of seeing Bud again & he will always be in my heart!
