George Finkel, 82, passed away April 17, 2019 at Brightwater, Myrtle Beach, SC.

Born on July 29, 1936 in Paris, France, he was the son of the late Maurice H. and Anya Feinblit Finkel.

George Finkel was a 3 time Emmy award winning TV Producer/Director. He graduated from the University of Michigan. He began his sports production career at WPHL in Philadelphia in the late 1960s. He took a "part-time" position at NBC Sports in 1971 that lasted 19 years. He won Emmy awards for; Super Bowl XIII, the 1982 World Series and Gymnastics coverage at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. He also produced the 1979 "Bird vs Magic" NCAA Basketball championship game. At that time, it was the most watched sporting event in History. His career includes; 6 Super Bowls, 6 World Series, 6 Orange Bowls, 2 Stanley Cup Finals along with several NCAA championships. After leaving NBC he formed Megasports productions and produced; Miami Dolphins and Cleveland Browns preseason games, Houston Rockets and NY Nets basketball games and several Mummers parades. His expertise was also utilized to set up the camera locations at the Philadelphia Spectrum when it was built and to help Garrett Brown test the Sky Cam and then be the first television producer to use the Sky Cam in an NFL game.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Russo Finkel; son, Michael H. Finkel and his wife, Anne Hamilton Finkel; daughter, Lori Finkel Callaghan; and grandchild, Maddox Hamilton Finkel. He is predeceased by his first wife, Lynette Willis Finkel; siblings, Marvin Finkel and Selma Jacobson; and son-in-law, Michael J. Callaghan.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 pm on Wednesday, April 24 in Lee Funeral Home Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 1105 48th Avenue North, Suite 109, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577.
