George Glenetzke

George Glenetzke, 86, of Wausau passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at Kennedy Park Medical and Rehabilitation Center.


He was born May 7, 1923 in Brokaw to the late Edward and Theresa (Ostrowski) Glenetzke.  George was a veteran of WWII, enlisting in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17.  On September 7, 1946, George married Isabelle Spatz in Wausau.  After 33 years of service, George retired from American Can/James River Corporation.  His hobbies included walking, fishing, and wood working in his basement shop.  He crafted many different items that included stools, coat and quilt racks, and many different birdhouses.  He was also an avid Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs fan.


Survivors include three sons, Michael of Wausau, John of Plymouth, MN, Thomas of Eau Claire; three daughters, Shirley (Jon) Greenwood of Wausau, Diane Bremer of Wausau, Debra (Warren) Johnson of Hudson; four grandchildren, Eric and Amanda Johnson, Jennifer (Jon) Ciatti, Brian (Becky) Bremer; one great granddaughter, Bryn Bremer; two brothers, James (Judy) of Wausau, Eugene of Wausau, and three sisters, Alice Imhoff of Wausau, Josie (Larry) Blazic of Nolensville, TN, and Irene Gehrke of Arbor Vitae.  George was preceded in death by his wife, Isabelle on June 29, 2000, three brothers, Herman, Leonard, and Clarence and two sisters, Christine and Lorraine.


Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 3, 2009 at the Church of St. Anne.  Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park with full military rites performed by the American Legion Montgomery-Plant Post #10. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Helke Funeral Home and at the church Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.  A parish rosary service will be held Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
