I'm Julius Ray Triplett out of Quad Cities, Illinois. I grew up in Chicago. Every summer, my mother would send me to Mississippi to stay with cousin George and his family. His boys were brothers to me and he treated me like a son.
We had so much fun running and playing up and down Logan Road and in the woods, meadow, and pastures riding horses, chasing cows, riding bull...playing baseball in the meadow or whatever....just having fun.
Cousin George was a natural born hunter and we hunted and fished with him. He taught us how to shoot guns and hunt. He was a champion deer hunter and belonged to all the deer clubs around.
But he made us work too. We would get up early to pick cucumbers and harvest and pick the garden vegetables. We had so much fun riding on the back of his pickup taking the vegetables to market so we could get paid. Usually we got a dollar in money and coca cola and sweet treat. LOL!
I learned how to be a man from my cousin George. Because of cousin George mentoring, I was able to go back to Chicago and stay out of trouble, graduate high school and join the military.
He would us boys..."you better straighten up and fly right or I'm gonna tear into them britches..."

My favorite memories of my dad was how happy he was when the children and grandchildren would come home for the holidays, especially Christmas time.
His favorite thing to do was to make his Christmas ambrosiia, grating coconuts and peeling all kinds of fruit and nuts for his ambrosia while singing Christmas carols. By the time Christmas morning came, there was no ambrosia left, the grandkids would sneak to the kitchen and eat all of dad's ambrosia.
