George Sartor Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 21, 2015.
George Bernard Sartor, 54, of Tracy, California passed away on Thursday, July 16th, 2015.
He is survived by his five children, Austin (Kasey), Jordan (Jeff), Zachary, Paige, and Corianne, and his beloved dog, Betty; parents, George and Charlotte Sartor, brothers, Greg (Patty) and John (Deena), sisters, Julie (Charles), Joan Menger (Matt), and Gigi Cappello (Toby) and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
George was born December 5, 1960 in Nuremburg, Germany. He graduated from St. Joseph High School and received his degree from Texas State Technical College in Waco.
His life centered around raising his five children, competitive cycling, and his productive employment of 27 years as a Mechanical Technologist.
George was an avid cyclist and enjoyed torturing not only his friends, but his brother, John's friends when he was visiting Victoria, Texas. While visiting, George Sartor added a fifth season to the cycling season, Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter and "oh shit, George is in town". He couldn't get enough cycling on the weekends so he rode every work day on the "lunch ride". George rode his bike to and from work more times than not. He was an active member of Central Valley Velo cycling club. He won his age division in the 2010 Downieville Mountain Bike Race. He also won the 2012 Copperopolis Road Race which was decided by a photo finish. George completed the Death Ride three years in a row. It is a 129 mile ride through the Sierra Nevadas with 15,000 feet of elevation gain through five mountain passes! George was also a California Triple Crown Gold winner and, no, he didn't ride horses, he just rode his bike, long and hard. This prestigious award is awarded to those riders insane enough to have completed five double-century rides. George went above and beyond and did a sixth double century, just for good measure. He rode many more century rides, too many to count. George's Strava account has logged over 22,000 miles of riding on his Leopard Cycle DC1. He basically rode the distance of circling the globe. George enjoyed the richness of friendship in the cycling community especially, Erbin, Bao, Nina, Ken and many, many more.
Visitation is Friday, July 24, 2015 from 6:00-7:00 pm at Rosewood Funeral Chapels. On Saturday, July 25,, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Victoria, Texas, a Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet will be recited at 9:30 am and The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. More information can be found at www.rosewoodfuneralchapel.com.
Pallbearers will be Austin Sartor, Jordan Sartor, Zachary Sartor, Greg Sartor, John Sartor, Charles Garrison, Toby Cappello, and Matt Menger.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Bernard's Catholic Church, 163 W. Eaton Ave. Tracy, CA 95376, http://st-bernards.org/ or Central Valley Velo Cycling Club, PO Box 502, Tracy, CA 95376, www.valleyvelo.org.

George, You'll be missed every day. You brought each of your friends a gut-busting sense of humor and an honesty that may sting at times but it was often spot-on. Your co-workers are devastated... and all of your friends are heartbroken for your children too. You were a fun, wild, interesting, talented, disciplined, warm-hearted Angel on this Earth Sartor. We hope your spirit knows what an impact you made during your short time here, and we hope you know the tears that have been flowing and how we all will now have a void from this day forward. With love, LP

Happy George

George was a good friend since we both started working at Sandia in 1988. He was the most stalwart self-disciplined person I've ever known and I will miss our very candid conversations. I know he cared very much for his family and children and would often sacrifice his own desires to put their needs first. My sympathies go out to all of his family for their terrible loss.

I am saddened to hear of George's passing. My sympathies to his parents, family and especially his children.

George was a force to be reckoned with: energetic, smart, skilled, determined and driven. He was a close friend for more than 25 years and we shared some great adventures working and playing in California. He took me on my first mountain bike ride and many others from the Pacific Coast to the gold country and Sierra Nevada mountains. Every conversation with George included a few good laughs: he had unique insights and his own way with words.

Today, the west wind carried us to George's memorial with epic power. The ride back to the Lab would have made George smile, for our suffering was exquisite.

RIP, George Sartor.

George, thank you for trying to teach me how to climb faster, sorry I wasn't a better student. Thank you for all the guidance and direction when I took over the 'race director' role from you, I hope I made you proud. Thank you for always being honest with me, you know I appreciated it. We will miss you.

I only new George through short periods of cycling at lunch time. He was kind, friendly and encouraging. I hardly new him, but he always greeted me as a long time friend. A very special and fun person.

I am not one of the bicyclists, but a friend with George through my husband and at work.
I am crushed and so saddened that George left us too soon. He was a friend to so many. He was honest, funny, but at times he was rough around the edges, not too forget "very disciplined". We all loved how George made us laugh, and yet tired to get you fired up at the same time. He had a heart of gold, and I can't imagine how his family and children can bear this tragic sudden loss. I'm not sure I ever will. Hugs and prayers to George's family and dear friends.
