George Schweickert Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 17 to Jan. 18, 2007.
George H. Schweickert Jr., retired U.S. Air Force senior master sergeant, passed away at home after a long illness on Jan. 3, 2007.
A devoted husband, father and grandfather, George dedicated his life to his family and country. He first served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Midway and the USS Bennington, then transferred to the U.S. Air Force for a combined military service career of 28 years. He was an explosive ordinance disposal (EOD) technician.
His courage and devotion ultimately carried him through service at sea during the end of the Korean War and a tour of duty in Vietnam. A true patriot, George was awarded many decorations, including two Bronze Stars, and was once nominated for the honor of Airman of the Year.
His family was fortunate to be able to accompany him on many of his travels and through his service learned to appreciate the good in the peoples of the world, as well as value the privilege of U.S. citizenship.
George is survived by his wife, Ruth, of Fort Walton Beach; his daughter, Eileen (Dan Nevedal) of Mesick, Mich.; son, Bud (Pam Bourque), and granddaughter Kelby Rae, of Destin; and son, Chuck (Lindy Steenbergen) of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.
A gathering in remembrance was held Jan. 7 at the family home and was attended by many dear friends and family members. A military honors ceremony will be held in the future.
"A time for smiles,
"A time for tears,
"A tribute to
"A cherished husband,
"A loving father,
"A devoted grandfather
"Of many years...
"A time for smiles,
"A time for tears."
