George Siletzky Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 23, 2018.
Siletzky, George MADISON, N.C. George Siletzky, 63, of Madison went to be with the Lord on August 2, 2018. George was born in Queens to Robert and Helmi Siletzky on December 6, 1954. He attended primary and secondary school in Liberty, N.Y.; and graduated from Union College with a bachelor of science in chemistry. He married Ellen Brennan on September 13, 1980, at Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, N.Y. George and Ellen happily lived in Schenectady with their three children before moving to Hudson Valley. He devoted 23 years to the New York State Department of Transportation before retiring in 2017. He and his family were heavily involved in local churches: First Presbyterian Church in Schenectady, First Baptist Church in Kingston, and Grace Community Church in Lake Katrine. George loved telling stories and captivating an audience. His boisterous laugh and sense of humor left an impressionable effervescent smile on others. During his days on stage, he even played Macbeth and Willy Loman. On Sunday nights, George wore a jersey with flashes of green and gold and barked at the television set for his favorite NFL Team, the Green Bay Packers. George was preceded in death by his father, Robert Siletzky. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ellen Siletzky in New York; his children, Matthew in Virginia, Christopher in North Carolina, and Johanna in New York; mother Helmi in North Carolina; brothers, Sergei in North Carolina, Robert in North Carolina, Paul in Virginia and Stephan in Colorado; and granddaughter Christianna in South Carolina. Please join the family in celebrating George's life by making a donation to Capital City Rescue Mission. George had a love for others and believed in the vision and mission of this nonprofit organization. Capital City Rescue Mission is dedicated to proclaiming the life-changing Gospel of Jesus Christ to the homeless and needy of the Albany Capital Region in New York. www.capitalcityrescuemission.org/donate/

I know George is watching from heaven all the improvements we are making at 12 Weatherwax Rd. Poestenkill. Things he may have started, is now being completed, as I write this. I will never forget George, because of him we are living in our dream home. Thank You George, and I look forward, when we meet again. God Bless You.
I will never forget you,
Joe

It is a blessed that he became involved in the training programs because he made every trainings, classes and courses entertainment!! He is a very good trainer and teacher. NYSDOT will never have anyone like him. I will always remember him!! He is truly missed!! God Bless!!

Brother George; I'm so sorry I could not be there with the rest of the family in your final moments. As you were aware, I was in and out of the hospital at the time and could not travel. I'm so glad we got a chance to talk to each other just days before you went into the hospital. It was a wonderful conversation that I will remember and cherish for the rest of my time on this earthly plain. We have lost a truly gifted story teller and over the top actor. It was always a pleasure to watch as you took center stage at family gatherings and told a story or a joke or two. No story or joke would be complete without your Russian/Irish-pirate voice character. You were a very large man and loved life to it's fullest. You'll be missed my brother. I'll make sure to always leave a place at the table and lift my glass at family gatherings in memory of you.

My heart broke when I heard of George passing on. I only knew George for a short time. Long enough to buy his home in Poestenkill. From the first time I met him, and the few times I had a chance to speak with him alone, I always had a special feeling inside, that he was a loving, caring person. I am so sorry, and my prayers go out to all the family, and friends. I love it here, thanks to George, and I will never forget him. God Bless You George, and RIP.

I worked with George at NYSDOT for many years in the our training capacities. He was a wonderful trainer...especially George was on many class evaluations. He was a giving soul and saved me a few times in and out of the classroom. He was a good friend, I felt he was more like a brother than a just a colleague. Funny, giving, wonderful man. I will miss him greatly. Sympathies to Matthew, Christopher, Johanna, and Ellen as well as the rest of his family.

I was lucky enough to work with George in training at NYSDOT. On my first day, he had put together a box of office supplies and welcomed me with, "Top of the morning to ya, Kiersten" in one of his accents. So many DOTers loved George - he made us smile and laugh every day. I use many of his stories when I'm teaching classes. George was a dear colleague and friend. I learned so much from him and I will always smile remembering him.
