Georgia Keefe Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 18, 2025.
Georgia (Smith) Keefe, 96, of North Andover, MA formerly of Westfield, MA and New Smyrna Beach, FL died peacefully on July 16, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late of Joseph W. Keefe to whom she was married for 64 years. Born in New Haven, CT to George and Constance Smith, she grew up in Hamden, CT along with her two brothers W. Richard Smith (deceased) and James C. Smith.

Georgia was a graduate of the College of New Rochelle and received a Master's in Education degree from Westfield State University. She taught French for many years at Westfield High School and then later on at New Smyrna Beach High School and Stetson University. She considered it a great joy to introduce the French language and culture to her students.

In 2006 she and her husband returned to MA to be closer to family. A life long Roman Catholic, Georgia participated in parish life at Blessed Sacrament Church in Westfield, Our Lady Star of the Sea in New Smyrna Beach and St. Michael Church in North Andover. Always active, she enjoyed travelling, (especially to France), reading, history, classical music, opera and of course the New York Times crossword puzzles. One of her fondest memories was her trip to Paris for her 80th birthday with family. Her greatest joy was spending time with family at events that included her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Georgia is survived by her two daughters, Constance K. Breen (David) and Kathleen K. Halbach ( Eric); two sons William G. Keefe (Joanne Krawczyk), Joseph M. Keefe ( Sharon); daughter in law Cindy Keefe; 11 grandchildren, Meghan Reeder (Lance), Karen McCarthy, Matthew Keefe; Kathryn Breen, David Breen (Kimberly Ramos), Michael Halbach (Meghan), Mark Halbach (Colleen), Christopher Halbach; Ryan Keefe, Mary Keefe, Julia Keefe; 8 great grandchildren, Alexis McCarthy; Cameron, Connor, Kaylee Breen; Emily, Wesley, Ethan Halbach and Jaxon Osborne. Georgia was predeceased by her son Kevin J. Keefe and her grandson Alex Krawczyk Keefe.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to call on Friday, July 25, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, Inc. 35 Merrimack Street, No. Andover, MA. Her funeral mass will be celebrated following the calling hours at 12:00 noon in Saint Michaels Church, 196 Main Street, No. Andover, MA. Burial will take place at a later date. Georgia was my Mother´s (Anne Stenach Lopatto´s) classmate at the College of New Rochelle, bridesmaid, and dear friend until my Mother´s death in 2010. We heard so many stories about their college years and friendship. Good to know they are reunited again in heaven. Condolences to the family from the Lopatto children.
