MATTILA Gilbert (Gil) Adolph William March 22, 1934 - April 21, 2009 Loving son, father, grandfather, brother and all around great friend, died after a long and courageous struggle with cancer. We will always remember his stoicism and how amidst his years of adversity he stayed strong, positive, dignified and never complained. Gilbert was predeceased by his loving mother Vienna and father Walfred. He will be deeply missed by his children, son Gilbert, daughter Kristine (Robert), grandchildren T.J., Robert and Jordan, brother Bob (Heather), sisters Lillian, Miriam, Dyanne (Ernest), Donna (Tony) and Sharon as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Also "buddies" Al, Richard, Ron and Stan. Gilbert lived and worked as a master carpenter and talented woodworker in the lower mainland for many years before moving and working in New Zealand and the Islands of the South Pacific for almost two decades. He returned to Canada in 1979 and settled in New Westminster. Special thanks to the staff at Queen's Park Hospice for their dedicated care and compassion. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. No funeral by request. A celebration of Gil's life will be held on May 3rd, 2009 for family and friends.
