Glynn Cato Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 7, 2014.
Funeral services for Glynn Edward Cato, of Tyler, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014, at Greater St. Mary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. M.K. Mast officiating and eulogist.

Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Tyler under direction of Brooks-Sterling & Garrett Funeral Directors.

Glynn Edward Cato was born July 17, 1955, to J.L. Cato and Johnnie Cato, Tyler, in Smith County. Glynn was preceded in death by his father, J.L. Cato; and his sister, Johnetta LaGale Cato. Glynn was called home to be with the Lord on Nov. 1, 2014.

Glynn joined Greater St. Mary Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of the late Rev. Charlie Williams. Glynn had faithfully served the Lord as deacon chair, church trustee, a member of the Bus Ministry and the Fifth Saturday Outreach Ministry as well as being involved in numerous other church activities. He was a devoted and faithful member until his health failed.

Glynn attended Tyler public schools, a graduate of John Tyler High School. He attended The University of Texas at Arlington, the University of Houston and received his Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy from Texas Southern University in Houston.

Glynn began his 30-year career in Tyler in July of 1984 as a hospital staff pharmacist at The University of Texas Health Center.

Glynn married Dona Burrell in April of 1985, and to the union one son was born, Jarrell Edward Cato. Glynn was a devoted, loving Christian, husband, father and friend. He was admired by everyone, and was a person who was an inspiration to all. Praise God for the time we shared with Glynn.

Glynn leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Dona Cato; his son, Jarrell Cato; his mother, Johnnie Cato; his nephew, Jonathan Tucker, of Plano; two aunts, Christine Johnson, of Tyler, and Ruby Hooper, of Garland; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Great memories of our pharmacy team at UTHCT

November 7, 2014

I learned a lot from Glynn during my years as a pharmacist at UTHCT. He was a great role model. I learned how to laugh and find fun in my everyday work activities, as well as the meaning of fulfilling friendships at work. He was unequivocally a free spirit in the workplace - a memory of Glynn that I will always treasure. Glynn - we will always remember your wonderful spirit and how you could always put a smile on anyone's face. As you signed on our good-bye card when we left UTHCT......."We will miss you".

I have heard of Glynns passing. I loved working with Glynn when I was UTHCT. He was a faboulus man who was devoted to his family. To me he was always Ms Cato's son and since she took me under her wing when I first got there getting to know Glynn was icing on the cake. I wish I could be there to give you a big hug and hold you tight - but I won't be able to. Please know I am keeping all you and Glynn in my prayer. I know he is sitting at the right hand of God and has embraced his sister and fater again.

I am so very sorry for your loss and I love you so much. May God blessings and healing hands be on your hearts as you go forward with this loss.

Love and prayers.
