Gregory Bentson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 9, 2024.
Gregory Todd Bentson was born September 26, 1955 in Minneapolis and passed away July 13, 2024 at his home in Lakeville MN after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was preceded in death by his father Milton Floyd Bentson, mother Ann Marie Danielson Bentson, and brothers Jerry and Larry Flanagan. He is survived by his sister Susan Midtvedt, niece Lisa Midtvedt, nephew David "Ole" Midtvedt, grand-nephew Matthew Midtvedt, and many friends and relatives.

Greg was born to be an artist. He started his career by drawing pictures for everyone on request and cartooning for his high school newspaper. His talents included historically accurate sword making, pen and ink drawings, sculptures, and woodworking. His models have been displayed at the Walker Art Center and the Minnesota Historical Society. Working with Arms & Armor for 36 years, he built custom swords and rapiers, which can be seen on their website. Everything Greg put his hand to was beautiful.

Greg was a life-long learner and an avid reader. His knowledge, especially all things in nature and military history, rivaled that of an encyclopedia. He did crossword puzzles in ink from top left to bottom right.

Greg gave of himself freely, willing to help where he was needed, even at the end by being a donor at the University of Minnesota's cancer research program.

He will be interred at the Lakewood Cemetery, Donor Plot 40, in Minneapolis.

An informal gathering of friends and loved ones will be held at Antlers Park on September 15 from noon to 4:00pm at Shelter A.
