Gregory Thompson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 27, 2024.
In loving memory of Gregory "Gregg" Thompson, born January 13, 1949, who peacefully passed away in his sleep at the age of 75 on Sunday, February 25, 2024, after fighting an unknown ailment for over a year. His departure was due to natural causes, marking the end of a valiant struggle.

Gregg was a devoted husband, having married Carolyn on March 22, 1969, and remained by her side until the end. Their love was a testament to unwavering commitment.

A proud father, he welcomed his only child, Scott, on November 2, 1974, after enduring several failed attempts to expand their family. He cherished every moment with his family, finding solace in their bond.

From a young age, Gregg displayed a passion for sports and adventure. With a golf handicap that held steady in the low single digits for decades and a bowling average exceeding 270, he demonstrated his prowess on the green and the lanes. He often humorously remarked that he was "just ok at golf, good at bowling, and terrific at pool."

In addition to his sporting talents, Gregg had a colorful past, regaling friends with stories of his pool hustling days and daring drag races in his youth. Despite his adventurous spirit, he maintained a stoic demeanor that bordered on dispassionate to those who didn't know him well. Yet, beneath his reserved exterior lay a heart of gold, fiercely loyal to those he held dear.

Despite his quiet demeanor, Gregg's quick wit, sharp mind, and biting sarcasm endeared him to those who knew him intimately. He lived life to the fullest, indulging in his favorite foods - steak, clams, grape leaves, kiebie, and lobster - accompanied by his preferred beverages: Coca-Cola, Johnny Walker, and Miller Lights.

Above all, Gregg treasured his friendships. Blessed with a multitude of dear friends, he enriched the lives of all who knew him. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever be cherished.

In honoring Gregg, let us celebrate a life lived with passion, humor, and unyielding love.

We are so very sorry for your loss. Gregg's love and commitment to his family is indeed admirable in a world where many leave when times are hard. We are praying for your comfort during this difficult time. "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." (Psalm 147:3)

We are Amber's parents. We met Gregg at Amber and Scott's wedding. It was a very special day for all of us. That was a day of wonderful memories and new relationships. It was obvious how much Gregg and Carolyn loved their son and each other. Our relationship has been limited by long distance but we have stayed in contact with them over the years. Gregg will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
