Gudrun R. Benkendorf

Gudrun R. Benkendorf lost her courageous battle with breast cancer on June 8 2016. She was surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 30, 1950 in Dinkelsbuhl, Germany. She was the daughter of Ernst and Paula Vogel. Survivors include her husband William C. Benkendorf, sons Andrew R. Benkendorf and his wife Carolyn of Kasilof, Alaska, Matthew Benkendorf and his wife Gina of Fort Lauderdale, FL, their adopted daughter Akvile Petkevicius and her husband Egis of Plain?eld, IL, their adopted son Arturus Misurenkovas of Flanders, NJ. Her beloved grandchildren Nicholaus, Amelia and Presley Benkendorf and Adria and August Petkevicius, her brother Ziegfried Vogel of Germany as well as her much loved yorkie Tiny.

Upon returning from Germany after their marriage Gudrun and her husband Bill opened Benkendorf Garden Center and Landscaping in Mine Hill, NJ. Gudrun was most active running the Garden Center until her retirement in 201 1. She was known throughout the area for her amazing Christmas displays. Her compassion for others was very evident as she opened her home to many and donated to charities for children, animals and to feed the hungry. Her husband, children and grandchildren can be comforted with the knowledge that her life, although much too short, was well lived and much loved. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 25"" at 11:00 am at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum, 353 East Hanover Ave., Morristown, NJ.
