Harry B. Hooper

Born: April 25, 1948

Died: January 9, 2025

Harry B. Hooper passed away peacefully on January 9, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love for nature, family, and learning. Born on April 25, 1948, Harry's life was defined by his passion for geology, the environment, and his cherished grandchildren.

A lifelong advocate for the natural world, Harry was actively involved in the Audubon Society, contributing to conservation efforts and participating in the yearly bird count. He loved hiking in nature, marveling at its wonders, and sharing these experiences with loved ones. His deep knowledge of geology and dedication to protecting the environment inspired all who knew him.

Harry is survived by his longtime life partner, Lynn Reynolds, who was his steadfast companion and best friend. He is also lovingly remembered by his children: Daniel Hooper, Nicholas Hooper, Eric Hooper, and Kathryn Hooper, along with his grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride.

Harry's family invites those who wish to honor his memory to take a walk in nature, join a conservation effort, or simply appreciate the earth's beauty. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Apalachee Audubon Society at https://www.apalachee.org/donate. His love for the world around him and the people he held dear will continue to inspire us all.

Harry carried a gentleness and kindness about him that would radiate and shine down on everyone he came into contact with. The world was a better place with him in it, and the world will surely miss his presence and smile, as I know I will. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

One of my first memories of Harry was right after he and Lynn moved in next door. I learned quickly that he and Lynn were nature enthusiasts and I asked him to chrysalis-sit for me while we were out of town. I had a few chrysalis that were going to hatch and I needed him to release the butterflies once they hatched. He graciously agreed to do it for us and from then on I knew how special he and Lynn would be. Will miss you my sweet friend. Love, Tiffany

When I joined Audubon and the board of apalacheee Audubon I got to know Harry. Loved his birds and did a meticulous job of recording numbers of birds and conditions. Me and my wife Kim now do the territory for the Wakulla Christmas bird count. We would do the water/ canoe portion and they would do the land portion. I´ll remember seeing their smiling faces when we would run into them. My deep condolences.

Over the years, I would run into Harry as we were both out birding. We would stop and talk.

I enjoyed reading his posts about his feeder sightings. I appreciated him taking the time to share his observations.

He was a good man. I am sorry that he is gone.
