Harry Knox Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 11 to Jan. 12, 2012.
DOVER — Harry W. Knox, originally of Farmington, died of a rather sudden illness on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012 at the age of 88.

Born on Oct. 21, 1923 to Blanche and Harry Knox, Sr., Harry was very active until his death, working daily at PainCare in Somersworth as general handy man but primarily as the beloved coffee maker for the many busy employees. Harry attended Farmington schools, and then saw action while serving three years enlisted in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theater during World War II. After honorable discharge, he returned home and worked with his father Harry Knox, Sr., as a residential building contractor and roofer. He made many contributions to the town including that of volunteer fireman. A quiet spoken man, Harry was noted for his subtle wit and pithy interpretation of politics. He was an avid hunter, well known for his many successes, and mental and physical toughness.

Harry leaves a single child, Deborah Knox, of Dover; a nephew, with whom he was very close, Dr. Michael O'Connell of Barrington; a caring niece, Sharon Gray of Madbury, and numerous other stepsons, stepdaughters and the former Rowe family, originally of Farmington now residing in California.

Harry was predeceased by his wife Millie (Ricker) Knox three years ago, and his two younger sisters Muriel (Rowe) fours years ago, and Phyllis O'Connell two years ago.

At Harry's request, there will be no services but his cremated remains shall be scattered along a deer trail by his home in a brief celebration in June. Much thanks to the wonderful care received at Frisbie Memorial Hospital Memorial and Dover Rehab (Kindred Healthcare). Tasker Funeral Home 621 Central Ave in Dover is entrusted with the arrangements. Dr. O.
I have also enjoyed uncle Harry during the years working for you. Our early " 15 min. Kaffee chats" were a special treat, such a nice guy, good sense of humor!
The last time we talked was at your Mom's grave-side memorial service. I will always remember him fondly and with great admiration, Antje

I was very sorry to read of Harry's death. I got to know him while I visited with Millie as a Hospice Volunteer. I enjoyed them both very much. Mary

Dr.O,
I'm so sorry to hear about Harry. He and I had several early morning conversations over coffee and cocoa during my time at Paincare. He was a little spitfire and he'll be greatly missed.

Harry, How I envied you as sat in your green Buick convertible in front of "Candyland" back in the late forties and early fifties. You were an icon in the town of Farmington for many years. May you RIP along your infamous deer trail.

Our sincere condolences.
