Harry Vaughan Witt, 95 of Narrows, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 5th, 2015. He was born in Beckley, West Virginia on April 29th, 1920, and was the son of the late Charles Booker and Lucy Johnson Witt. In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Glen E. Doherty; four sisters, Frances Henderson, Marcella Thomas, Peggy Hopkins, and Ellen Erwin; and a brother, Charles Witt. A U.S. Army World War II veteran, Harry retired from Celanese Acetate in Narrows with 44 years of service. He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Narrows, the Narrows Kiwanis Club and the Giles Lifesaving and Rescue Squad. An avid golfer, Harry also enjoyed hunting and fishing, gardening, and family outings. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, he will be dearly missed by his family and many friends. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 73 years, Joan Caulfield Witt; three daughters, Joey Witt Thompson of Newport News, Virginia, Patty Witt Givens and husband Lloyd of Madison Heights, Virginia, Bobbie Witt Doherty of Roanoke, Virginia; five grandchildren, Robyn Nichols of Alexandria, Virginia, Ryan Nichols of Chesapeake, Virginia, Whitney Dunn and husband Rick of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, Holly G. Johnson of Madison Heights, and Darren Givens and wife Patti of Madison Heights; six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 9th, 2015 at 2 PM at First United Methodist Church in Narrows with Rev. Jason Stubblefield officiating. Entombment will follow in Birchlawn Abbey in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at First United Methodist Church Thursday from 12 noon until just prior to the service.
