Helen Craig passed away November 9, 2003. She was born Helen Elizabeth Loomis on February 22, 1914, in Springfield, Massachusetts. She grew up in Lynn, Massachusetts, and graduated from Lynn Classical High School. She attended Framinghan Normal School. She married Parker Henry Hapgood in 1934, and had a daughter, Gretchen. In 1947, she married Edward Dillon Craig, who preceded her in death.
Helen spent most of her adult life as a homemaker. She was an expert in needlework, producing creations in virtually every aspect of the art. Helen moved to Shafter, California twenty years ago to be near her daughter. She volunteered at the Shafter Convalescent Hospital, was a member of the Shafter Womans Club and a Green Hotel Cook. Her many friends will remember her wit and zest for life.
She is survived by her daughter, Gretchen and husband, Joe Kirk of Shafter; four step-grandchildren, Dr. Edward Kirk and wife, Olivia of Litchfield Park, Arizona, Julia Marie and husband, Doug Holser of Aptos, CA, Jennifer Ann and husband, Gary Taylor of Escondido, CA and Elizabeth Margaret and husband, Wayne Tyson Morris of Bakersfield; and five step-great-grandchildren.
At her request no services will be held. A memorial gathering is planned on Saturday, November 15, 2003, from 12:00 Noon to 3:00 p.m., at her daughters home: 655 Sycamore Ave., Shafter, CA 93263.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to: The Green Hotel/SHS, or a charity of your choice.
