Helen Grace Walker (Hamilton)
Age 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at the Langham Senior Citizen's Home. Helen was born in Riverhurst, SK on January 11, 1925 to Oscar and Cordelia (Olive) Hamilton, the second oldest of five: Gordon, Helen, Phyllis, Andy and Carolyn. In 1934 during the great depression, the Hamiltons moved to a farm near Radisson, SK. This is where Helen attended school and graduated in 1942. That September, she attended two months of Normal School and then at age 17, because there was a shortage of teachers during the war, she was sent to her first school near Nipawin, SK. Helen married Arthur Walker on July 12, 1947. In the years following, they were blessed with three children, Doreen, Darrel and George. They farmed together at what was then called The Wheatlands Farm in the Halcyonia District near Borden, SK. Helen loved life on the farm and felt it was a privilege and a blessing for her and Art to be stewards of the land and producers of food. She loved her garden and flowers. Family and friends were always welcome to come and share a meal or have cookies and a cup of tea (using real china). Good fellowship and warm hospitality at the Walker farm "in God's beautiful world" was experienced by many. Helen had the ability to make everyone feel special and was genuinely interested in each person she met. Her life centered around her faith, family and community. Helen was predeceased by her beloved husband Arthur in 2005. She is lovingly remembered by her children: Doreen (Bryan) Matschke, Darrel (Peggy) Walker, and George(Darlene) Walker; her grandchildren: Trevor (Shirley) Matschke, Ann (Todd) Walz, Tony (Rhonda) Matschke, Vincent (Jessamy) Matschke, Amanda Walker, Lance (Lindsey) Walker, Luke (Kandice) Walker, Joel Walker, Renee Walker, Nadine Walker; 16 great-grandchildren, brothers-in- law Walter Walker and Ron Fleming, and sister-in-law Lillian Hamilton as well as many nieces and nephews. The following services will be held at St. Vincent of Lerins Orthodox Church, 821 Ave E North, Saskatoon, SK with the V. Rev. Fr. N. Bernard Funk officiating: Trisagion Prayers of Mercy - Sunday, November 24th at 1:00 p.m. Funeral Service - Monday, November 25th at 12:00 noon, The Meal of Mercy/Reception to follow. Interment will be at the Borden cemetery at 4:30 pm. The family suggests that memorial donations could be made to Borden Care Home and Langham Senior Citizens Home.
