Herbert GERSHON

GERSHON, Herbert Herbert Gershon, age 89, of Atlanta, GA, died January 12, 2018. His life was defined by his passions - radio, music, and, above all, family. He began his love affair with radio in the army, where he served as an announcer. Early in his career, he became half of the first interracial, or salt-and-pepper, radio team in Atlanta. He worked at multiple Atlanta radio stations, serving as New Director at WGST, WPLO, and WRNG. He developed his love for music as a boy. He played trombone and proudly spoke of joining Atlanta's Jewish drum and bugle corps at an early age. He married the true love of his life, Evelyn Gershon, in 1954. They had three children and two grandchildren. Happily, the entire family gathered the night before his passing to celebrate Evelyn's 90th birthday, sharing a joyous, loving occasion. He even sang Happy Birthday to her just hours before he passed away peacefully. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Gershon; son, Eric, his wife Joan, and grandson Eli; daughter, Gina, her husband Jim, and grandson, Nate; and son, Josh. He is also survived by his sisters, Phyllis Arnold (Joe); and Elaine Beeber. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Congregation Bet Chaverim, Ahavath Achim synagogue, or the charity of your choice.
