Robertson, Herlene 86 Dec. 25, 1925 March 15, 2012 Herlene Robertson, a former longtime resident of the Vernonia community and as of late, the Beaverton community, passed away Tuesday afternoon, May 15, 2012 at the Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland at the age of 86. A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 1 p.m. at the Vernonia Christian Church, 410 North Street in Vernonia, with Pastor John J. Cahill of the Pioneer Baptist Church officiating. Concluding Rites and Interment will follow at the Vernonia Memorial Cemetery, 2080 Bridge Street. Family and friends are invited to attend a reception immediately following the cemetery rites, to be held in the fellowship room of the church. Herlene Robertson was born Dec. 25, 1925, the daughter of the late Florney and Lula Bell Johnson Thrasher in Louisville, Miss., where she was raised and received her education. She was united in marriage to Raymond "Ray" Glenn Robertson on Nov. 5, 1942 in Louisville, Miss. Following their marriage, they moved to Oregon where they made their home settling in Vernonia. Herlene worked for West Oregon Electric in Vernonia for 30 years as a cashier/receptionist until retiring. She was a longtime, active member of the Vernonia First Christian Church where she taught Sunday school, as well as served as the Sunday School Superintendent. Herlene was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge. Among her special interests were her grandchildren whom she had an extreme love for, supporting their numerous activities. Also, playing the slot machines at the Spirit Mountain Casino provided her great enjoyment. Herlene moved to Beaverton in 2006 where she was a resident at the Edgewood Downs Retirement Center for the last one and a half years. Herlene was preceded in death by her husband, Ray on May 19, 1984 in Portland. They had celebrated over 41 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her stepfather, James Kinard; three brothers, James, Freeman and David Thrasher; two sisters, Lou Grote and Louise Richardson; half brother, Patton Thrasher; two half sisters, Lizzie Bonds and Irene Cook; and daughter, Patricia Crowston. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Jack Holsey, Hillsboro; son-in-law, Marv Crowston, Bay City; two sons and daughter-in-law, Donald Robertson, Aloha and Allen and Angie Robertson, Beaverton; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Kerry Crowtson, Mill City, Kyle and Traci Crowston, Camas, Wash., Darren and Lisa Holsey, Wilsonville, Christopher and Amber Holsey, Portland, Tracey and Rob Wade, Orange, Calif., Michael Robertson, Phoenix, Ariz., Krissy Robertson, Beaverton, Jamie and Stephanie Robertson, Portland; eight great-grandchildren, Genna , Josie and Savannah Crowston, Reese and Zak Holsey, Emma, Lilly and Carter Wade, and Xander Robertson; many nieces and nephews; two brothers-in-law, Jimmy Richardson, Clarksdale, Miss. and Dave Grote, Las Vegas, Nev.; three sisters-in-law, Jean Thrasher, Monroe, La., Sylvia Thrasher, Garden City, N.J. and Lorene Thrasher, Columbus, Miss. The family suggests that remembrances may be contributed to the Vernonia First Christian Church, 410 North Street Vernonia, Oregon 97064 or to the Vernonia Schools Rebuilding Fund, 475 Bridge Street Vernonia, Oregon 97064.
