Herman BERG Obituary
Herman passed away at St. Paul's Hospital on Sunday, February 12, 2017 after a brief illness. He leaves four children: Arnie (Brenda), Waldo (Jenny), Vernelle (Cornelius) Buller, and Kel (Lora). He also leaves ten grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren. Herman was the last of his siblings to pass away, and will be remembered by his sister-in-law Marie (Larry) Speiser, and brothers-in-law Pete (Betty) Willems and Rueben (Linda) Willems, along with many nephews and nieces. Herman was born on May 15, 1924, the second youngest child of Gerhard and Sarah (Goertzen) Berg in Waldheim, SK. Herman and Esther (Willems) were married August 27, 1950. During their marriage, they lived in Rose Valley, Waldheim (twice), Hepburn (5 times), Hague, Elbow, Portage La Prairie, and Germany. His final earthly home was at Circle Drive Special Care Home, where he enjoyed a warm relationship with the staff and residents. Herman's career centered around teaching, and his students invariably gave him high marks as a teacher. Among his many interests were the Gideons, playing Rook, and noodle making with Esther. He excelled at leading groups in an unassuming way. After partially recovering from a stroke suffered in 2011, he became adept as a left- handed crokinole player. But he will be remembered mostly as a man of great integrity, contentment, cheer, and faith in the God he loved. Herman was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Frank, Jake, and Charlie (Herman's twin brother who died at birth), and sisters Sarah (Jantzen), Susie (Neufeld), Tina (Goertzen), Dora (Huebert), and Linda (Thiessen), and daughter Karen Marie (Rodgers). The Funeral Service for Herman will be held on Friday, February 17 at 11:00 a.m. at the West Portal Mennonite Brethren Church, 3134 33rd Street West in Saskatoon, with Pastor Ralph Gliege officiating. Interment will be held at Brotherfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Gideons International. Arrangements in care of Dalmeny Funeral Home (306-254-2022).

Remembering your life, Herman! From being your student in high school in Germany, to being your son-in-law and Karen's husband----you were always a thoughtful, and reliable presence. Your odd sense of humor was refreshing and intelligent. Thanks for everything you brought into the world, especially Karen and Kel! And good luck on the rest on your journey, please help us when you can and give Karen a big hug from me. In tears...
