MOULTRIE — Homer F. Veasey Sr., 77, of Moultrie, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, at Woodlands Living Center.Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, at Funston Baptist Church with the Rev. Ron Shiver officiating. Interment will follow in Funston Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Keith Baker, Lamar Brooks, Ralph Underwood, Damien Serrata, Robert NeSmith, Lee Veasey and Clay Underwood. Honorary casketbearers will be the deacons of Funston Baptist Church. Members of the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Department will serve as honorary escort.Born March 21, 1931, in Colquitt County, he was the son of the late Clifton Thomas Veasey and Ida Elizabeth Whitfield Veasey. He was a jailer with the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Department and was a farmer. He was a member of Funston Baptist Church.He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Team Veasey.Surviving are three sons, Homer Franklin Veasey Jr. of Moultrie, Wayne Keith Veasey of Valdosta and David Lee Veasey Sr. and wife Lorri of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren, Keith Baker, Brooklyn Veasey, Ashley Veasey, Amber Serrata, Lee Veasey, Laura Veasey and Kendall Veasey; two stepgrandchildren, Colton Moses and Caitlin Moses; and one great-grandson, Kaleb Baker.The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 22, at Cobb Funeral Chapel.Cobb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.Please sign the online guest book at www.moultrieobserver.com.

Homer and I graduated together from Moultrie High School in 1948. I've known him since then and he was always a Christian and a very good man. I'm sorry I'm unable to attend his funeral, but my sincerest prayers and thoughts are with his family.
