Honey Ray Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 22 to Feb. 24, 2006.
RAY _ Honey 1915 - 2006 She was born into a wonderful world of entertainment people in London, England June 22, 1915. Predeceased over twenty years ago by her beloved husband and partner, Don Ray, Honey took her final curtain February 20, 2006 at the Foothills Hospital, from natural causes. Mom, Honey, Nan, we love you and will miss you: son Donald Iain Ray, daughter-in-law Rosemary Brown; grandchildren, Michael, Matthew and Jenevieve; sister Betty Hession and niece Debbie Clark (California); nephew Michael Leggett Flynn (U.K).; grand-nephew Bruce Leggett Flynn (NYC) and numerous cousins in the U.K. and Australia. A resident of Calgary for over forty-five years, Honey, with husband Don and son Donald, performed around the world in variety theatre, vaudeville, cabarets, circus and rodeo, with trick and fancy roping and knife throwing. Honey and Don also worked together as military model makers, as artists carving and painting birds and historical dioramas, and as the original artists for "Miniature World" in Victoria, B.C. For years, Honey was active in the Rosedale Community Association serving on the Traffic Committee, as the Seniors Co-ordinator and in the Fair Share Taxation Association. In 1992 she was awarded a Governor General's Medal in recognition of her contributions to the community. Many thanks to Emergency Medical Services and the staff of the Foothills Trauma Unit for their compassionate care of Honey, and to Home Care (CHR) and Jean and Virginia Stewart for making it possible for Honey to continue living at home with her little dog Eddy. A Memorial Service and reception for Honey will be held at Holy Cross Anglican Church (2828 - 19 Street N.W.) today, February 24, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made in Honey's name to the Alberta College of Art and Design (1407 - 14 Avenue N.W.), Calgary, AB T2N 4R3. Donations will support the Don and Honey Ray Memorial Scholarship. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com . My sympathy to Honey's family. My late husband, Don,former Rosedale resident, used to look after some yard chores for Honey and Don and I'm know he enjoyed the stories they told as Don followed him around the yard. God bless
