Hubert C. Couch, Jr

Hubert "Lucky" Cameron Couch, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home in Sugar Land, Texas, on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at the age of 90.

Born on October 9, 1934, in Marshall, Texas, Lucky was the beloved son of Hubert and Idell (Anderson) Couch. He spent the majority of his life in Longview, Texas, where he built a lifetime of memories and friendships that would define his enduring legacy.

Lucky briefly served in the United States Air Force before embarking on a long and dedicated career at Resistol Hats. Over more than three decades with the company, he became known for his strong work ethic and active involvement as a union member. His outgoing personality and steadfast dedication left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Throughout his life, Lucky embraced every opportunity to stay active and enjoy the outdoors. In his youth, he loved roller skating and swimming, passions that evolved into daily walks and sunbathing later in life. A spirited dancer, Lucky once won a Twist dance contest-a testament to his lively spirit and love for music.

Lucky was an avid supporter of the Longview Lobos football team. Holding season tickets for many years, he often traveled by bus to cheer them on at out-of-town games. His enthusiasm for sports extended to car racing as well; he enjoyed the thrill of races at Boothill Speedway in Louisiana.

Music played a central role in Lucky's life. He had a deep appreciation for the Blues and counted the movie *Crossroads* among his favorites. He rarely missed Longview's Alley Fest, where music filled the streets and community spirit thrived. In his younger years, Lucky worked at the legendary Louisiana Hayride, selling refreshments while witnessing performances by iconic artists like Patsy Cline-an experience he cherished throughout his life.

Later on, Lucky found joy visiting casinos in Louisiana. It wasn't just about trying his luck; it was about soaking in the lively atmosphere, enjoying the music, and connecting with people-something he did naturally wherever he went.

Although he did not attend church regularly, Lucky believed in God and came to embrace God's love for him more deeply in his later years.

Lucky was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Idell Couch; his brothers, Ronnie Couch and infant Victor Couch; and his sister, Dolores Scea.

He is survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law, Camera(Couch) and Joel Ramirez of Sugar Land; his cherished grandchildren, Vanessa Ramirez and Zachary Ramirez; his nephew and niece-in-law, Ronnie Couch, Jr. and Karen Couch of Magnolia, AR; along with their children, Jenny (and husband Bert) Everhart and Nicholas (and wife Maya) Couch.

Lucky will be remembered for his helping spirit, love of life, and the lasting connections he made with everyone he met. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

The family would like to hold a small informal memorial gathering in Longview at a later date for anyone who knew Lucky. They invite friends to share their memories and stories.
