DOMINIC CATHOLIC CHURCH, 18255 W. Capitol Drive. A celebration of Hugh's life will follow Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Luther Manor or St. Dominic Catholic Church. I learned yesterday of Hugh's death, and today of his marriage to the Leiningers, one of whom (Jerry) was a grade school classmate. It makes the news even more difficult. I met Hugh as a detective at a time when lawyers and detectives had the opportunity to know and learn from each other. He was an outstanding detective, and an even more outstanding man who was respected by and earned the respect of everyone in and out of the Milwaukee County courts. His word was his bond and he was a friend in the very best sense of the word. My sympathy and love to his family...

Oh Bev, our lives were so enhanced by our long friendship over many years with you and Hugh. We have many wonderful memories of the times we spent together. What a difference one life can make. Hugh was unique. He was one of those people that everyone loved. He filled our lives with so much joy, happiness and always with optimism. We are keeping you and your family close to our hearts. We understand the sorrow and loss you all are experiencing. It will never be the same without Hugh. We will miss his smile and warm welcomes.

Hugh was always one of the best in my book. Over the course of the nearly 20 years we were on the department during the same time, he always had a smile and a word of encouragement for me. What a mentor! My prayers go out to Bev and the family during this difficult time.

Hugh was my private investigator for many years before he retired. My day always brightened a bit when the receptionist would call to tell me he was in the office because in addition to the great work he did on my cases, it was always a pleasure to talk with him. Hugh was a great example of someone who was determined not to "be old" even as he got older. My condolences to his family and friends. We will all miss him.

I first met Hugh almost 50 years ago when he became our neighbor and took the time to help a skinny young teenager work on his aspiring basketball career. Both he and Bev made quite an impression on me as I grew into a young adult and as our paths crossed over the years the two of them still impressed me as not only being a great couple but seemed to be even better friends. Bev, I don't know what I'll say to you when I see you, but I hope you'll know what I'm feeling. God bless you and your family and I know my parents are helping to make Hugh welcome to his new home.

I worked with "Hughie" in the Detective Bureau and always enjoyed his attitude and humor. He was one of the few that always called me "David." Rest peacefully Hugh.

Over the years such warm memories of a warm and wonderful man starting with his weddding all of those years ago. A man we would see at family gatherings and it was always like "yesterday." He will be missed by all. To Bev and the whole family, our thoughts and prayers in this time of need. Sorry we will not be able to attend the "celebration of his life."
