I haven't seen Ian for many years, but it sounds like he hadn't changed much during this time. I fondly recall family dinners and celebrations that Ian helped make joyous. Parties with silly paper hats, the dictionary game, and kicking the soccer ball in the back yard with his nephews. He was a classy guy, with a good sense of humour and sense of fun, who simply seemed to enjoy life. I recall running with him around the Stanley Park seawall during a very soggy thunder storm. We had a great time. The world desperately needs more people like Ian.

Our deepest sympathies and condolences go out to Ian's family. My memories of Ian Andrews is of a kind and gentle man who loved life and loved his darling Renate. I remember how much they both enjoyed dancing, going on many trips together and how much they loved being with their family and grandchildren. Ian has touched many lives and we are all so lucky to have a part of him with us in our hearts.

50 years ago Ian captained our first Clan soccer team under John Buchanan and I came to admire and respect his hardworking leadership on and of the field.

Ian was a consummate gentle-man, full of humility and a love for humanity. He forever saw the positive in all that life brought him, even when we didn't. I followed him to CIC, not knowing where that path might lead, but trusting his vision and belief in international education and knowing his uncanny ability to bring the right people together. And, he knew how to dance through life. Ian will be sorely missed, but never forgotten.

So many years and so many memories. I first met Ian and Renate when I started to work in the Faculty of Education at SFU in 1979. Both were extremely encouraging and helpful in shaping my career. For over three decades I enjoyed a very rewarding working relationship with Ian and later a long-lasting friendship with both Renate and Ian. I will miss them both very much.

I would like to offer my condolences for the loss of you. It was 20 years ago that you came to Hokkaido University of Education for the first time. Thereafter we deepened the relations of both universities through various exchange programs. In addition, you were always one of the best mentors when I entered the Ph.D. program in the Faculty of Education of SFU. You always supported me when I was living in Vancouver. I cannot talk about SFU and Vancouver without remembering Ian. I feel like meeting you somewhere again. I would like to talk a lot again then. Please come to Sapporo any time.

Ian's commitment and love for Simon Fraser was only overmatched by his love for family which unquestionably was over all including his passion for soccer.
It was a shock to us to learn that Ian had not been well and even worse to find that he had passed.

I share the world's sorrow at the loss of such a virtuous, gracious and caring soul. For many years Ian was a part of our family as brother-in-law and later as Uncle Ian to our sons. I treasure such fond memories of those times-Ian playing with his young nephews, donning the British policeman's hat; helping with the dishes; cheering on the Canucks with his nephews and enjoying the Rolling Stones show at the Omnimax together. His integrity, caring and good will made a difference to all. He will be sadly missed.

Ian was a gentleman first and always; a mentor to many and a friend to all. A man of wit, style, grace, and good humour who will be thoroughly missed, not only in the S.F.U. community but around the globe, thanks to his involvement in the International Program. I'd say he was one of a kind, but really, he was just a chip off the old block in the form of his father, Andy. May they both rest in peace.

Sending my deep condolences to the family . I have fond memories of Ian going back to the mid '50 ies when we lived across the street from the Andrews in Camp Chilliwack. Ian and his Dad made regular runs around our " circle" of PMQ 's and he joined us in our group games.
We met in later years as educators and it was special to share our experiences. Ian was always enthusiastic and faithful about attending our Camp Chilliwack reunions. He was a warm and caring son, brother, partner and friend and will be greatly missed.
