Iqbal Singh Dhillon

November 15, 1944 - January 4, 2019

Iqbal Singh Dhillon was born in Lyllpur, Pakistan on November 15, 1944. He passed on January 4, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. As an only child, his family migrated to Hoshiarpur, Punjab.

In 1962, Iqbal was granted a student visa and attended Yuba City High School. In 1967, Iqbal established himself as a peach farmer. Through hard work and an uncompromising will, he would expand into prunes, walnuts and almonds. Due to the generosity and kindness of Iqbal, many first-time farmers established themselves in the local Sutter, Yuba and Butte County communities.

When not farming, Iqbal was directly involved in Sikh Temples throughout California helping establish the Tierra Buena Sikh Temple, Fremont, Modesto and San Jose Gurdwaras. Iqbal served as director for Tierra Buena , Live Oak Gurdwara and others for many years. True to his Sikh roots, he understood power of giving support, guidance and means to so many who crossed his path.

Iqbal was a dedicated husband, proud father and loving grandfather. He loved nice cars and trucks, rich food and humorous stories. His laugh would fill every inch of a room.

Iqbal is survived by his loving and dedicated wife, Balbir Dhillon; his daughters, Amanbir K. Dhillon and Hurshbir K. Shahi; his sons, Manbirpaul S. Dhillon and Jagbirpaul S. Dhillon; his grandsons, Jovin S. Shahi, Rajan S. Shahi, Nanak S. Dhillon, Jaivin S. Dhillon and Nihal S. Dhillon; his granddaughter, Jasleen K. Dhillon.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Naseeb and Gurdawar S. Dhillon.

Services will be held Saturday, January 12, 2019, at 11:00am at Ullrey Memorial Chapel, 817 Almond Street, Yuba City, CA. Prayer services will follow at Tierra Buena Sikh Temple, 2468 Tierra Buena Road, Yuba City, CA.
