J.C. Green Jr., 88, of Greenville died Jan. 1, 2008, at Parkland Hospital following a brief illness.He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Vera; a son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Sheila Green of Greenville; a daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and Lynn Reynolds of Agoura Hills, Calif.; four grandchildren, Ashley Reynolds, Jeffrey Green, Jennifer Bruton and husband Monty, and Cynthia Gentry and husband Bryan; and three great-grandchildren, Paden, Bayleigh Jo and Kennedy Bruton.J.C. was born in Sayre, Okla., on Nov. 2, 1919, and graduated from college at Oklahoma State University. He spent the last 44 years in Greenville actively working and serving his community. He was a charter member and deacon of Ridgecrest Baptist Church, a former hospital chaplain at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville, a participant of jail ministry in Greenville and a member of Gideon’s International. After retiring, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking and playing dominoes. J.C. was devoted to both his family and church family and generously gave both his time and energy to assist others.Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Ridgecrest Baptist Church under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Kevin Herbert and Dr. Sam Douglass will officiate. Burial will be in Memoryland Memorial Park. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.The family requests donations be made to Ridgecrest Baptist Church or Gideon’s International.Pallbearers will be Monty Bruton, Bryan Gentry, Gene Glass, Jeffrey Green, Richard Habbings, J.W. Housewright and Odis Sullivan. Members of the Adult 7 Men’s Sunday School Class are honorary pallbearers.
