J. MEAKIN Obituary
Peacefully, on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at the age of 85. Loving and devoted husband, for 60 years, of Jean (nee Hemphill). Proud and cherished father of John (Cathy), Jennifer, and Andrea (Dennis). Amazing "Poppa" of Thomas, Megan, Peter, Maxwell, Avery, Dawn and Amy. Allan will also be fondly remembered by extended family, friends, and former parishioners. Allan, and Jean, were both graduates of Bishop's University in Lennoxville, QC. In preparation for his ordination, Allan graduated from Trinity College in Toronto. His ministry with the Anglican Church of Canada saw him serve 30 years in the diocese of Ottawa and 8 years in the aided diocese of Athabasca. For 13 years after retirement he served many of the churches in the Pembroke Deanery. Allan was recognized for his significant contribution to the community and Canada by being awarded the Commemorative Medal from the Governor General on the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada. The family wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to the special staff of Hospice at May Court, for their compassion and care.

Friends may call at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road, Nepean on Sunday, November 20 from 1:00 – 3:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., and on Monday, November 21 at St. Thomas the Apostle Anglican Church, 2345 Alta Vista Drive from 10:00 a.m. until time of service which will be held at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, a donation the Primate's World Relief and Development Fund would be appreciated. Condolences, tributes or donations may be made at

The reverend Meakin was the ONLY minister that I personally trusted and enjoyed his company. In the early 70s he was an inspiration to me as a new immigrant to Canada. There are some experiences in his company that I and my wife (63 yrs) still talk about and bring joy and levity to us. May J rest in peace and tranquility.

The Rev'd Allan Meakin was the Rector of Emmanuel Anglican Church in Arnprior, Ontario, during my formative years. I remember him as a loving, Christian man, who represented his Church to the people of his community faithfully and honorably. I am glad that I served at the altar while he was our priest. My wife and I send our sympathy to Mrs Meakin and their children.

Jean,
When I was in the Parish of Combermere as Deacon in Charge, Allan did the parish tour with me so that we could celebrate Eucharist. I could not have asked for a more grace-filled companion on the road and at the altar. I have regularly thanked God for his presence in my early days in parish ministry. May God grant you the comfort of the Holy Spirit.

Mrs. Meakin, Jennifer, John and Andrea, as teenagers we went to school in Arnprior and church at Emmanuel. RevMeakin and his wife were a big part of our lives. He was such a gentle man and so very easy to talk to. Sympathies to you all and your family, he was a wonderful man of God and will be welcomed home.

Allan had a profound impact on my life as a teen in youth group at St. John the Divine, as his assistant curate at St. Thomas' Alta Vista, and as a friend over many years. Jane and I have been thinking of him recently as he officiated at our wedding 25 years ago this week. We give thanks for his kind heart, good humour and solid faith in Christ. We are praying for you Jean and for all the family. We regret that we cannot be with you over the next few days but we will be remembering Allan and you all in our church services this week as he is very fondly remembered here in the Ottawa Valley. Thanks be to God for the life of His Servant Allan and for the gift of eternal life in Jesus!
