Jacob Lyndon Shotz, 19, of Doylestown, passed on November 14, 2017 peacefully at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia surrounded by his loved ones. He long suffered from severe epilepsy as part of a rare genetic condition, KCNB1. He was born August 9, 1998 in Abington, the son of Howard and Gloria (Kramer) Shotz. He attended the HMS School for Children with Cerebral Palsy. Jacob loved the simple things in life; his music, his books, his art, singing, baby beluga, bubbles and taking long walks with dad. Jacob is survived by his parents Howard and Gloria (Kramer) Shotz, brother and sister-in-law Chad and Hui Laspee, his niece Olivia Laspee, and his sister Hali. He leaves his maternal grandparents, Fred and Brenda (Shapiro) Kramer. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Jacob is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Sidney and Diana (Slomsky) Shotz and nephew Evan Laspee. A celebration of Jacob's life will be held at Goldstein's Rosenberg's Raphael-Sacks Suburban North, 310 Second Street Pike, Southampton PA 18966 on Friday, November 17th at 3:00 p.m. with a reception at The Abramson Center for Jewish Life (1425 Horsham Rd, N. Howard and Gloria, I am so sorry for your loss! I just now read the FB article. He was a sweet kid as I remember him coming to chop. I remember the stuffed "Tigger" that he liked so much.
I will keep you all in my prayers. May God give you the strength to endure! Scott and Maria Crane.

WELCOME TO HOLLAND

by
Emily Perl Kingsley.

I am often asked to describe the experience of raising a child with a disability - to try to help people who have not shared that unique experience to understand it, to imagine how it would feel. It's like this......

When you're going to have a baby, it's like planning a fabulous vacation trip - to Italy. You buy a bunch of guide books and make your wonderful plans. The Coliseum. The Michelangelo David. The gondolas in Venice. You may learn some handy phrases in Italian. It's all very exciting.

After months of eager anticipation, the day finally arrives. You pack your bags and off you go. Several hours later, the plane lands. The stewardess comes in and says, "Welcome to Holland."

"Holland?!?" you say. "What do you mean Holland?? I signed up for Italy! I'm supposed to be in Italy. All my life I've dreamed of going to Italy."

But there's been a change in the flight plan. They've landed in Holland and there you must stay.

The important thing is that they haven't taken you to a horrible, disgusting, filthy place, full of pestilence, famine and disease. It's just a different place.

So you must go out and buy new guide books. And you must learn a whole new language. And you will meet a whole new group of people you would never have met.

It's just a different place. It's slower-paced than Italy, less flashy than Italy. But after you've been there for a while and you catch your breath, you look around.... and you begin to notice that Holland has windmills....and Holland has tulips. Holland even has Rembrandts.

But everyone you know is busy coming and going from Italy... and they're all bragging about what a wonderful time they had there. And for the rest of your life, you will say "Yes, that's where I was supposed to go. That's what I had planned."

And the pain of that will never, ever, ever, ever go away... because the loss of that dream is a very significant loss.

But... if you spend your life mourning the fact that you didn't get to Italy, you may never be free to enjoy the very special, the very lovely things ... about Holland

The Shotz family made Holland a very special place for Jakers. He always had a smile on his face and a song in his heart. He will be missed by his HMS Family

He was and will always be the heart and soul of your family. No joy was ever greater then him in his home surrounded by his family. The dedication of his family was never a burden.it was second nature...you lived and breathed Jacob...he was blessed with you ..May God wrap you in his arms and guide you to peace....all the clouds gathered ..and then it rained..tears from heaven...and Jacob smiled and found his place in the heavens.
Hugs ... Sheila

When tomorrow starts without Jacob, Don't think you are apart, For every time you think of him, He is right there in your heart

Jacob taught us all to love, and that is what he did. He had he's up's and down's and always came through, but this time he wanted his wings and left a part of him in our hearts.
Love you, Uncle Howie and Aunt Conni.
