Dr. James Archibald Campbell
February 23, 1935 - February 7, 2022
Charlotte, North Carolina - James "Jim" Archibald Campbell, 86, passed away on Monday, February 7, 2022 at his home in Charlotte after his battle with Alzheimer's. Born in Buies Creek, NC in 1935, he was the son of the late Leslie Hartwell Campbell and Ora Green Campbell.
Jim was an athlete excelling in sports growing up, leading to being on the Campbell University and then Wake Forest varsity basketball teams. He achieved his doctorate at UNC Chapel Hill with the help of the United States Army, and then began his military service as an OB/GYN medical doctor. Jim was stationed in Denver, Honolulu, San Antonio, Germany and finally Monterey. After his active service he and his wife, Alice Faye, decided to move to Charlotte with their children. He was a partner in Mintview OB/GYN and its predecessor firms providing OB/GYN services to his patients for over four decades. Jim continued his military service as a Colonel in the North Carolina Air National Guard where he was deployed in the Gulf War.
Jim aka "Soup" at Quail Hollow Club played golf several times most weeks with his closest friends. He won club championships and tournaments and repeatedly told family and friends while playing "there is no other place I'd rather be...."
Jim is survived by his children, Leslie Deaton and her husband, Alex of Charlotte, James Campbell of Hickory and Walter Campbell of Charlotte; grandchildren, Christine Campbell of Monroe, Alexander Deaton and his wife, Carrie of Charlotte, Allyson Gordon and her husband, John of Fort Mill. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren Hartleigh Campbell, Aila Gordon, Lee Gordon, James Deaton, and Eleanor Deaton. The love of his life for 61 years, Alice Faye predeceased him in 2021.
The family is grateful for the support of the FirstLight Home Care and Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region caregivers and nurses, his private nurse, and his amazing housekeeper.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 11, 2022 at Providence Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered in memory of Jim to Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 7845 Little Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28226 or Providence Baptist Church, 4921 Randolph Road, Charlotte, NC 28211.

I was a patient for many years at Charlotte Woman's Clinic. Dr. Campbell was always so kind & had such an easy-going way about him. In 1990, he delivered my twin boys. May the joyous memories you shared with him bring you comfort and peace in the days ahead. With sympathy..

I am so very sorry to hear we have lost your dad. What a wonderfully fine and kind man he has always been. You all have so many wonderful memories of your parents to help you Thru the grief. They loved you all dearly and are so proud of all of you. Your dad would always make us laugh so hard. He even delivered a few of the Wingert grandchildren. We knew we were in good hands when he took care of us. Our dad loved and respected his abilities too. They were a good team for many, many years. My deepest sympathy and a huge hug to each of you.
