FARMINGTON - James J. Cotter Jr., 84, of Farmington passed away at 9:25 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family, and companion, Karen Kenney. He was born on Aug. 18, 1933, in Tiskilwa, Illinois, a son of James J. and A. Marguerite (O'Neil) Cotter Sr.
Surviving are his children, Kellie (Ron) Streitmatter of Dunlap, Kim (Dan) Archdale of Hanna City, Kristie (Tim) Weniger of Edwards, Konnie (Craig) Lansford of Farmington and Kevin (Linda) Cotter of Peoria; his loving companion, Karen Kenney; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Bill Cotter of Waukee, Iowa; and two sisters, Therese (Jim) Logsdon of Bartlett, Illinois, Helen (Jerry) Price of Scottsdale, Arizona.
James was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John, and Bernard Cotter; and four sisters, Mary Stecher, Betty Godsill, Benitia McGinn and Nancy Friel.
He was a self-employed carpenter in the Farmington area for several years, member of the Hanna City Sportsman Club, Bartonville American Legion Post 979, volunteer fireman for the Farmington Fire Department, and was the Farmington fireman of the year in 1988. James served his country as a United States Army Veteran serving in the Korean War.
Private family graveside services and burial will be held on Thursday, Feb. 22, 2018, at St. Mary's Cemetery in Tiskilwa, Illinois, where military honors will be conducted. Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Farmington Fire Department, Peoria OSF hospice or to Tiskilwa Historical Society. To leave online condolences please visit www.sedgwickfuneralhomes.com.
