James FLETCHER Obituary

Published by Regina Leader-Post on Aug. 27, 2014.
FLETCHER, James (Jim)
Passed away peacefully, on August 23, 2014, at the Pasqua Palliative Care Unit from complications following several strokes. Many thanks go out to the doctors and nurses at the General and Pasqua Hospitals for their care and attention. Jim was born in Regina on May 2, 1932 and received his schooling in Regina. He worked for SaskTel from 1951 to 1986 with 35 years of service. Jim was a quiet man with many hobbies that he was very active in - canoeing, cross country skiing, fishing, hunting, model airplanes, daily workouts at the YMCA and a love for Jazz music. The family spent many summers at the cottage at Saskatchewan Beach. He had a core group of friends that got together often. Jim was very dedicated to the SaskTel Pioneers Computers for Schools/Salvage program in Regina. He was known as "The Laptop Guru," volunteering every Tuesday and Thursday since retirement. Jim was predeceased by his parents Bill and Mary Fletcher; brothers Roy and Ken, niece Deborah Fletcher as well as many from Mike's side of the family. He leaves behind his loving wife Michele (Mike) of 60 years (married August 29, 1953); his sons Dale of Regina and Kent (Diana) of Calgary and his loving granddaughter Angela (Arthur) of Vancouver, plus many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Jim's Life will be held for family and friends at the Broken Rack Billiards, 3806 Albert Street, Regina (at the South end of the Golden Mile) from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 29, 2014. The family respectfully wishes that, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan. Arrangements entrusted to:

I am just learning of Jim's passing today. I am saddened and so sorry that I missed his memorial service. Jim was a great computer technical support to me; when all else failed, I could call Jim and he had some suggestions of what I could do, or often, just came over and fix whatever it was. It was such a technical problem today and a search for his phone number that brought me here. He was a great neighbour and friend. My condolences to his family, albeit so late.

Our sincere condolences to the Fletcher family. We will always cherish the many years of fishing in Northern Manitoba.

Hopefully there is lots of fishing on the other side. Catch the big one Jim, we'll save a spot on the trophy for ya.

My condolences to the Fletcher family.! I remember Jim as a happy helpful man in his work as were brothers Roy and Ken with whom I enjoyed good times. One of his prized canoes still plies the Ontario lakes n the Ottawa river on an annual basis.
