James (Jim) Tye Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 19, 2025.
James (Jim) Edward Tye of Allen, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2025, at the age of 89. He was born on February 21, 1936, in Jones, Oklahoma, to his loving parents, Robert Cook Tye and Sylvia Leticia (Goodner) Tye.

Jim married Shirley Ann (Bynum) Tye on December 14, 1956, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Jim lived a life full of devotion to his family, faith, and community. He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley Tye of Allen, Texas; daughter Jeana Dixon and her husband Clark of St. Charles, Missouri; sons Mark Tye and his wife Shirley of Kingwood, Texas; Scott Tye and his wife Kristi of Allen, Texas; Tim Tye and his wife Kristi of Allen, Texas.

He was the cherished Pawpaw to Melody Dotson (Bryan); Paul Dixon; Taylor Lockett (Jack); Bryson Tye; Jaycie Tye; Dillon Tye (Lauren); Austin Tye; Kaylee Tye; Kasey Tye; Allyson Beardsley (Brandon); Emily Listak (Luke); Lindsey Tye. Jim was also blessed with four great-grandchildren: Will, Danny, Cooper, and Lucy.

He is preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and one brother.

Jim and Shirley served in Ecuador as Southern Baptist Missionaries for 29 years. They made a difference in many lives as they proclaimed the name of Jesus to the Ecuadorian people and Quichua people. Upon their retirement in 1999, they continued to serve in Love County, Oklahoma, by assisting with the Hispanic community there, and serving on staff at Eastside Baptist Church in Marietta. Jim was a volunteer Chaplain for the Love County Fire Department and sang and played in the orchestra for the Singing Churchmen of Oklahoma. He was also the owner of Tye Piano Service, tuning and repairing pianos across Southern Oklahoma and North Texas. After their move to Allen in 2020, they became members at Allen Heights Baptist Church and they started a Bible study at Springwood where they live.

Jim always had a smile a mile wide, and an upbeat and encouraging spirit. He genuinely loved his Lord, and it was evident in his daily life. His family will miss his booming baritone singing voice, his joy for life, his laugh, and his kindness, which he offered to anyone he encountered.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 23, 2025, at Allen Heights Baptist Church, 1309 E Main St, Allen, Texas 75002.

In lieu of flowers, Jim & Shirley would ask that you make those donation to the International Mission Board at www.imb.org/generosity/give-now.
