James O'Neal Johnson, age 87, passed away on Monday, June 26, 2017 at Richard M. Campbell Veteran's Nursing Home.

Born in Anderson County, SC on December 29, 1929, he was the son of the late John Coy "Jack" Johnson and the late Lila Estelle Harris Simmons. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, earning a purple heart during the Korean Conflict. He was a great musician and especially loved the steel guitar. O'Neal enjoyed coaching little league baseball teams. He retired from Michelin after many years of service. He was a member of West Anderson Church of God.

He is survived by his loving children, Don Johnson (Autumn), Debbie Vaughn (Robert), and Dale Johnson (Cathy), all of Anderson, SC; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. James was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean Spence Johnson.

The Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with Reverend Mark Daniel and Reverend John M. Daniel officiating. The family will gather for a time of visitation following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Orrville Baptist Church, 2620 South Main Street, Anderson, SC; or to West Anderson Church of God, 101 Rogers Street, Anderson, SC 29624.
