James Paul McGuire

James Paul McGuire "Jim" passed from our vision but never from our hearts, June 10, 2025. Born January 3, 1954 to Sylvia Francis and Joseph Patrick McGuire in Pittsburgh. When he was 10 years old Jim moved with his family to Carson City, Nevada, where he graduated from Carson High School in 1972. Jim knew from a young age after visiting San Francisco with his family, that it was the place he wanted to move and build his life. Around 1975 Jim ventured out to San Francisco in his Dodge van to follow his dreams. Jim moved into a home with several of his close friends in a beautiful part of San Francisco known as Bernal Heights. Jim would remain living on his dear Mullen Avenue for about 50 years until his passing. In 1986 Jim married Alicia Bluestone and they were blessed with two children, Katherine & Daniel McGuire. On May 11, 2011 Alicia left this world to become an angel in Heaven. Jim would continue raising Katie and Dan as a single Dad, giving them all his love.

Jim always had an ability to see something that needed repaired and figure out the method to fix it. That ability turned into a career. Jim started as a carpenter working his way up to became Vice President for Chapot Construction. Jim would be involved in many important Construction projects in San Francisco, one in which he and his good friend & fellow coworker, Chris Dunbar & their crew repairing Candlestick Park before and after the 1989 Earthquake, saving many lives. Jim would remain with Chapot Construction and was very good friends with the owner Bill Chapot. After a long career Jim retired but kept his hands in the construction industry working for other friends repairing and building.

Jim had many passions but his two greatest passions were family and friends. He had unique qualities of strength, humor and compassion. Jim was a never-failing source of support and understanding to his family & friends. Jim was always there for others and was a friend to all. He dedicated himself to the Al-Anon community. Jim was an avid reader of all topics, frequent concert goer, wine maker and very dedicated Grateful Dead fan. He was a plant and bird enthusiast. After the passing of his older sister and brother, Jim was the glue that held his family and friends together. He was always sending emails (he wasn't much of a phone talker), he arranged the events that made up the family life. His life was a blessing and his passing was peaceful. We all take comfort knowing Jim will always be watching over us from his heavenly home. Rest in peace beloved Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Nephew and Uncle.

Jim is survived in death by daughter Katherine, son Daniel, ( Shahleha), Sister Judy Bendure, (Fred), Sister in law Jody Bluestone, Emily Russell, (Steve), nieces Kristan Warren, Heather Gosnick, (Tim), Great niece Kayla Krahn, nephews Michael McIssac Brian Russell, Devon Gosnick, Great great Nephew Graham, many Aunts, Uncles and cousins from the McGuire, May families & Bluestone families.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am, Wednesday June 25, 2025 at Fernwood Funeral Home, 301 Tennessee Valley Road, Mill Valley, Ca 94941, 415-843-2803. A celebration of Jim's life to follow at 2:30 pm at 217 Mullen Ave. San Francisco, Ca.

Jim was the best uncle/cousin I could have ever asked for. When I showed up in San Francisco at 23yrs old in 2015, him and his family welcomed me with open arms and tons of love. I don´t know where I´d be today without them all. I am blessed to have known him, and grateful for our time together. He was a very special man who will always hold a place in my heart.

From grade school to the present Jim has been a loving friend , always treating me with open arms like a brother. So many good times and adventures. From a first job riding our bikes around Carson City painting fire hydrants for the city, camping on the Carson river, sneaking off to San Francisco without our parents knowledge, riding our motorcycles across the Golden Gate, so many concerts and street parties, it has always been nothing short of a wonderful ride.
Rest Well Brother.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Jim´s family and friends. Jim was a kind, loving and compassionate man. He wrote the mist beautiful letter to my parents after the death of their oldest son, Freddie. His words were so comforting that my mom read it over and over. One of the things that he expressed to them was his love and gratitude for them as he never forgot the little things that my parents did for him and his siblings when they were young. This demonstrates the character of a great man. Jim will be missed by many but his examples of love and compassion will be with the many people whom he touched throughout his life.
May perpetual light shine upon him and May his soul and all of the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace.
Love, John & Bev Davis
