James Minor Obituary

Published by San Jose Mercury News/San Mateo County Times on Sep. 19, 2015.
James Minor
Nov. 20, 1937 - Sept. 14, 2015
A Resident of Santa Clara
Born to the late Ida Louise and Jim Raymond Minor on November 20, 1937 in Wichita Falls, Texas. James, better known as Jim, moved to California at the age of three but lived in Nevada during some of his elementary school years. The family settled in Santa Clara where Jim graduated from Santa Clara High School in 1955. Jim graduated from San Jose State in 1959 with a degree in Mathematics. During his teaching career he earned a Masters Degree in Public Administration.
Upon graduation from San Jose State, Jim joined the Eastside San Jose Union High School District staff as a Math teacher and over his 35 year career (1959 - 1994), Associate Principal at various schools including Andrew Hill, Yerba Buena, and Oak Grove High Schools. Many years after their graduation, students he met would stop him to say how much his teaching and counseling helped them to be successful in their lives. After retirement, Jim tutored a number of high school students and they would say how much he inspired them to appreciate math.
Jim was an avid golfer and enjoyed weekly golf games with his former colleagues and friends.
Jim will forever be cherished and live in the memories of his loving family: wife Carolann, daughters Ellen (husband Henry), Deborrah, Jessica and his adored grandchildren Elaine, Lydia-Jane, Weston and Carly. The family is grateful for his loving kindness and dedication to family values. Jim was always ready to step in and lend a helping hand to lighten the burdens of family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 22 at 11:00 AM in the chapel at Mission City Memorial Park at 420 N. Winchester Boulevard.
Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Stand Up To Cancer.

Jim was the most amazing step father , willing to take on two more daughters as his own. He enriched my life with his humor and kind advice as I went through planning to become a counselor. It was he who steered me from the school program into the more broad mental health field. Even though he lived his 35 years in the school system he saw school counselor jobs shrinking. This was one example of his wisdom and caring. He played a role in my life that he did not need to, my life was so enriched by his love and kindness. He will be missed. Thanks to all of his old pals who came to his service sharing their memories of his young years. Blessings to all of you. Deb
