Rouse, James Hayward Jr. CHULA VISTA -- James Hayward Rouse, Jr., of Chula Vista, CA, died Saturday, February 23, 2013, in La Mesa Health Center after a short fight against several natural diseases. He was 84. Born in Henleyfield, Mississippi, July 26, 1928, to James Hayward Rouse and Mallie Lee Burks Rouse. He grew up largely in Mississippi and Louisiana and joined the United States Navy at age 17. He was stationed in San Diego, CA, and left the Navy after two years served. He worked at Rohr Aircraft while living in Chula Vista with his wife, Elva, and their two children, James Hayward Rouse, III and Margaret Ann Rouse. He and his family moved to Ocean Springs, MS, in 1969 where he worked at a shipyard in Biloxi, Mississippi for a number of years while his children were growing up. Rouse in 1994 and he and Viena lived in Chula Vista until his death this year. They were married nearly 19 years and were very devoted to each other. Hayward, as most family members called him, was an avid horse racing fan and enjoyed handicapping the races and actually owned a race horse at one time. He was called Lucky Jim by friends. He is survived by his wife, Viena Rouse, children James and Margaret, half-sister and brother Jim and Jill, grandchildren Callie and Elva Alicia, sisters Jeanne Tavares and Patricia Doughty. He was predeceased by his mother Mallie Lee Burks Crain and stepfather J. C. Crain.
