Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 10, 2005.
James H. Schroeder, 78, a resident of Eldridge, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus in Davenport. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2005, at Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge. Burial will be in Allen's Grove Cemetery, Donahue, Iowa, where military honors will be conducted. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, Eldridge, or the Donahue American Legion.
He was born December 16, 1926, in Davenport, the son of Julius and Ella (Riessen) Schroeder, and was a 1942 graduate of Davenport High School. During the Korean conflict, Jim served in the U.S. Army with the 34th Field Artillery and was honorably discharged as a Corporal on May 11, 1955. On May 20, 1953, he was united in marriage to Margery Ann Lorber in Davenport. She preceded him in death on December 27, 2004.
James was employed as a rural letter carrier in Donahue and Dixon for 34 years, retiring in 1990.
His memberships included the Donahue American Legion, the Donahue Sportsman's Club where he served as Secretary and Treasurer, the Scott County Rural Letter Carrier's Association where he was an officer, the Iowa Rural Letter Carrier's Association, the National Rural Letter Carrier's Association and the Davenport Elks Lodge. In addition, he coached the West Scott Baseball League for eight years, two of which, he served as president.
He and his wife were faithful members of the North Scott Athletic Boosters and rarely missed a game, especially when their sons or grandchildren were playing. He loved to play cards (mostly poker), had many great adventures camping with his family and always enjoyed a good joke. Jim had an early interest in magic tricks and loved to entertain his family and friends as a novice magician.
Those left to honor his memory include his sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Jody Schroeder, of Eldridge, and Steve and Michele Schroeder, of Janesville, Wisconsin; his grandchildren, Jason, Jamie, Kristen, Cody and Kyle; and his sister, Arleen Ott, of Spencer, Iowa.

To lose both parents so close together seems so sad, but they are together and for that we must be grateful.

Jim and Marge were the ones who started what eventually became the Fahrenkrog Addition south of Donahue on my parent's farm.

I have so many memories of the two of them because of growing up and going to school and teaching together for so many years.

As you know, Jim loved to cook and would often have the evening meal ready when Marge returned from school.

It pleased my mom no end when Jim requested her recipe for cream puffs after Mom had left some in the mailbox for him.

May they both rest in peace.

My sincere sympathy.

Larry and Jody, & Family

Steve and family...

we are so very sorry about your dad. We realized he was failing in health and would imagine the loss of his dear Marge broke his heart. We may not be able to make visitation because of my work, but please know that we are thinking of you, and loosing both parents in such a short time is double stress for you all. We hope you know how dear your family is to us, and that you take good care of each other...as you are the new family...and your parents would be proud of you all,,,and those grandchildren...your grandparents were very special to so many, and to us...they were great people who loved life! God Bless you all The Randy Brockhouse family
