James Trammel Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 4, 2024.
James William ("Jim") Trammel of Hoover, AL passed away at the age of 83 on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024.

He was preceded in death by his parents Robert Winford Trammel and Dudgar Mae Woods; brother-in-law Billy Gene Young; nephews Michael Anthony Young and Gregory Dewayne Young.

He is survived by his sister Ouida Jean Young of Southaven, MS; his daughter Stephanie Trammel Vander Noot (Ross); stepsons Hooper Stevens and Ben Giles Stevens; niece Cynthia Lynn Young; and his three grandchildren Tanner Martin Vander Noot, James Andrew Vander Noot, and Lauren Palmer Grace Vander Noot.

A native of Tyronza, Arkansas, Jim attended the University of Memphis (then Memphis State University) and was active in the Naval Reserves in his twenties. He pursued a career in insurance, which suited his social nature, and in 1978 became founding partner of the Birmingham area independent insurance agency Trammel, Harper, and Williams, Inc.

Outside of the office, Jim could be found on the golf course at Riverchase Country Club, where he was also a founding member.

Those in Jim's sphere knew he appreciated good food, good times, and good company throughout his life - usually all at the same time. He had a great singing voice but mostly reserved it for singing along with the radio. He will be remembered by many as a good companion for any circumstance.

Memorial service will be held at 4:30 pm on Sunday, April 7 at Cross Creek Church, 560 Lake Crest Drive, Hoover, AL, 35226. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations be made to Grace House Ministries (www.grace-house.org/donate or mail to PO Box 547 Fairfield, AL 35064) to help provide stable, Christian homes to Alabama girls in foster care.
