James Tyler, Jr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 30, 2023.
James Tyler Jr., 89, of Enfield passed away Friday, November 17, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Christine (Valente) Tyler.

Born on August 9, 1934, in Hollis, ME, he was the son of the late James Jr. and Agnes (Potter) Tyler. Known to many as Jim, he was named after his father who was also James Tyler, Jr. In fact, he was the fourth James Tyler in a row dating back to 1815. His son and grandson now also proudly share the name.

Jim graduated from Buxton High School in 1951. He worked for Royal Typewriter Co. in Hartford, CT for 20 years. In 1966, while participating in the company bowling league, he met his future wife, Chris. He also worked at Pratt & Whitney/International Fuel Cells for 26 years, where he retired in 1998.

Jim and Chris enjoyed 56 years of marriage together. For the past 23 years they spent their winters in Savannah Club, Port St. Lucie, Florida, enjoying time with friends, playing golf and bocce. Each summer they returned home to Enfield to spend time with family.

Jim enjoyed playing golf, which he picked up after retirement. He taught himself how to play the piano at a young age and was known to fill the house with his Country and Western favorites or Christmas music during the holidays. He loved playing cribbage and many other games. Jim and Chris loved to dance, and regularly stole the spotlight dancing together at Savannah Club events.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, James Tyler Jr. and wife Erin; his grandchildren, James Tyler Jr. (JT) and Joshua Tyler, all of Enfield. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy (Tyler) Parkey of Stafford, VA.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his siblings, Jeanette Mains, Marie Justus, Doris Lambert, Edith O'Brien, and Charles Tyler.

He had an especially close bond with his two grandsons, whom he loved dearly and was extremely proud of. They were tremendously fortunate to have had their Papa be such an important part of their life throughout their childhood. He is a big part of who they are. Their love of music, amazing talent at playing the piano, interest in golf, fierce competitiveness, love of games, curiosity and kindness all are a reflection of their beloved Papa.

Jim will be remembered as a loving husband, role model to his son and proud Papa who loved spending time with his grandsons.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
