I would like to extend my sincere sympathy to the entire Wittig Family on Jim's passing. As big of a guy Wit was, he could of been one frightening bully, but Wit was a gentle giant. My Grandfather Pete Byrne stayed with Witts grandparents the Tobins for years, when he came from Ireland. Ol' Witt used to tell me I owed him a beer. Jim Wittig was a Great Man, and will be remembered .

Dear Wittig Family,
I would like to offer my deepest sympathy to all of you at the death of your dear brother, Jim. I was so saddened when I read of his untimely death in the morning paper. I have many fond memories of him as a baby. As a little girl of 10 or 11 I loved to go to your house to help your mother and play with him or take him for walks in the stroller around Jonathan Place and Court. He was such a sweet little guy. I also have fond memories of your mother. She was so kind to me. I will keep you all in my prayers as you lay him to rest in the Lord.

Jim was a great guy in the neighborhood, good sports commissioner, erudite Civil War buff. I hope your family can find solace in knowing he is in a better place.

My deepest sympathy to all of Jim's family. Jim was one of a kind and always a good friend who I share many warm memories. Some of our adventures were epic. Witt was one of the crew in our younger days and what a good friend. I was thinking of your mom on Monday morning and what a kind lady she was. That not only carried over with Jim but to all of your wonderful family. I know this is a tough time to get through but it's that support of family that will ease your sadness. God bless you all and I know Jim is being greeted with open arms and is now part of the big picture.
