Mary Jane Moore Cambias
(August 1, 1943 – June 17, 2015)
Mary Jane Moore Cambias passed away Wednesday, June 17 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Jane was born the second of five children to Jim and Midge Moore in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. She graduated from Lawrence County High School in 1961 where she was crowned Miss Law-Co-Hi her senior year. After attending Mississippi State College for Women for a year, she graduated from Western Kentucky University in 1965 where she was president of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. She moved to Atlanta where she taught middle and high school in the Dekalb County School System. She retired from teaching after having her first of three children. While her children were in school, Jane was highly involved at their schools: Christ the King School, Marist School and Woodward Academy. She was a long time member of the Cathedral of Christ the King where she served as co-chair of the Cathedral’s 50th Anniversary Jubilee Celebration. Jane’s true gift was in entertaining where she welcomed friends and family into her home on a regular basis. There was never a party that she did not tackle with ease and no one seemed to enjoy themselves more than Jane.
Jane is survived by daughter Kelly and son-in-law David Miles, son Timothy J. Cambias, Jr., daughter Katie and son-in-law Matt Morgan. Grandchildren Sarah Jane, Patrick and Charlie Miles and Carter and Timothy Morgan, and former husband Timothy J. Cambias, Sr., all of Atlanta. Brother and sister-in-law James Y. and Gail Moore of Lawrenceburg, TN. Sister and brothers-in-law, Diane and Jim Cone, Susie and Daniel Wilson, all of Lawrenceburg, TN, and Molly and Nathaniel Mann of Viola, TN. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, all of whom she loved dearly.
The family will be forever indebted to the incredible and tireless love given to Jane by her caregivers. Thank you Phyllis Gardner, Soporia Boyd, Marrisa Rodriguez and Britany Barnes for all your love and support.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral of Christ the King on Monday, June 22 at 10 am. The family will receive visitors on Sunday, June 21 from 4-6 pm at H.M. Patterson & Son-Oglethorpe Hill Chapel. Memorial contributions can be made to Marist School, 3790 Ashford Dunwoody Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30319 or The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

My prayers to Jane's family as I recall sweet memories beginning with her befriending me when I transferred to Old Public School in 1954. She made the transition very easy. Also recall that her sweet mother had gone to school with my mother so we had good growing-up times. Always felt welcome in her home during those days; even remembering the Christmas holiday when MANY people got stranded during a snow storm and the Moore home was deluged with college kids. Her mom and dad were so gracious and served a wonderful breakfast and I always wondered how they had so much food for that many kids! After breakfast they began the arduous task of getting kids back home. Thanks and appreciatiion for these memories. Anne Old Rice
