PICKELL, JANET P. (SENTLE)
Flushing
Janet Pickell, of Flushing, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, Janet went home to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She passed away at home November 28, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. Janet was born April 27, 1941 in Adrian, Michigan, the daughter of Cecil and Margaret Sentle. She graduated from Adrian College with a degree in elementary education. It was there that she met her husband, Robert. They were married in Flint, Michigan on May 9, 1964. Janet was very involved in the Flint community, especially in connection with faith-based charities and activities. She loved the Lord and lived her life exemplifying that love. She participated in several Bible-study groups with her friends. She was especially proud of her involvement in the annual "Prayer Chain Day" with her dear friend Geneva Spears, and Motherly Intercession's "From Mom" Christmas celebration for children of incarcerated parents. A friend of Janet once observed, "Janet is my best friend. Then again, she is everybody's best friend." Upon learning the prognosis of her illness, Janet assured her family she was at peace and ready for God's will. Janet loved watching old movies, staying at her family's place in Naples, Florida, walking the beach, and being with her grandchildren. Janet was an amazing mother and grandmother . . . a joy to all who knew her. She lived with purpose and leaves a rich legacy. Janet will be missed dearly by her friends and family. Janet is preceded in death by her parents and brother, David. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Robert; daughter, Laura (and son-in-law, Rick Kline) of Novi; sons, Robert of Washington, D.C. and Brian (and daughter-in-law, Malori) of Grand Blanc; two grandchildren, Emily Kline and Reeva Pickell; and three siblings-Sue Hudson, Steve Sentle, and Debbie Budwit, and many nieces and nephews. We offer a special "thank you" to the Gentiva Hospice staff, and our dear friends who supported us during this time. A celebration of Janet's life will be held 10am Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at Mayfair Bible Church, 5339 W. Pierson Rd., Flushing, MI 48433, with Senior Pastor Dean Stewart officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4-8 PM Sunday and 12-8 PM Monday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 W. Hill Rd., Flint, MI 48507. Still think about Janet often. Recall the special visits when we might stop by her family home in Adrian on a Sunday afternoon or they would bring their family to our farm for a visit. I always got a kick out of Bob coming from Statin Island, NY - his wonderment of seeing a cow for the first time and Janet getting a kick out that experience as well. She was a very upbeat person with a huge personality and an infectious smile.

I was so sorry to see of Janet's passing in the Adrian Daily Telegram. We were sorority sisters at Adrian College. I have fond memories of her. We were both commuters. I have thought of her often, especially when I drive by Vine St. My prayers are with you and your family.

Sheriff, Queen Janet was the most tenacious cheerleader on the planet. She carried the torch for you on so many occasions. She was the woman behind the scenes. She loved parades and serving her community. She will be greatly missed at Christmas by all the inmates in your jail. She made it her mission to bring hope and prayer to those in need. She was so proud of her independent daughter. She loved to boast about Bob Jr. being the world traveler and Brian her Attorney. She was so proud. She loved her grandchildren. She was my 3rd grade teacher at Dillon Elementary (Miss Sentle) and I can remember delivering a wedding gift to her Westgate apartment with a few other students and my 4th grade teacher, Mrs.Marrs.
