Jayne Romanek Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 8, 2025.
Jayne Emma (Siegmund) Romanek, 86, passed away on April 1, 2025, at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA. Born on August 5, 1938, in Webster, MA, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Gertrude (Kruger) Siegmund.

Jayne married Edward John Romanek on November 24, 1956, and they celebrated 41 years of marriage before his passing in July 1998. She worked as a paraprofessional for the Thompson Public Schools before retiring.

In her retirement, Jayne was passionate about crocheting, a skill she eagerly shared with both the young and old. Her projects, often donated to local charitable organizations, won multiple awards at local craft fairs. An avid reader, cook, and Red Sox fan, Jayne also devoted time to several prayer shawl ministries and enjoyed traveling.

Jayne's legacy of generosity, skill, and warmth will be cherished by all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter Janet (Romanek) Young (Richard Matthieu), son Edward John (Jay) Romanek Jr., older brother Arthur Siegmund Jr., four grandchildren; James Young Jr (Amanda), Jennifer Young Caron (Gary), Derek Romanek (Alexa), and Casey Romanek Barber (Ben), six great grandchildren; Cayden Young, Jackson Young, Avery Barber, Skylar Barber, Landon Barber, Nella Romanek and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces. Jayne is predeceased by her older sister Betty A. (Siegmund) Ruhnke.

Private graveside service will be held Mount Zion Cemetery, Webster MA.

I was so glad that I got to touch base with Jayne several years ago when doing my family history. Jayne filled me in on much of my mom's (Rosentreter) side of the family. I had a chance to talk to her after so many years had passed. I remember her and Ed visiting when I was a child living in Oxford, Ma. Thoughts and prayers are with Janet and Jay.

I met Jayne in the fall of 2024 at my first prayer shawl weekend. Not having crocheted in many years, she very sweetly and gently got me going again. I also recieved "my" own first beautiful dark pink prayer shawl from Jayne. I love my shawl ,but now it means so much more. Thank you Jayne. Rest in peace. Thanks for sharing your love of life with so many!

My deepest condolences to you, Janet and Jay, and your families. I miss my dear friend so very much. Jayne took me under her wing when I became a para at school, teaching me the basic skills of classroom duties. Later, after we had both retired, she taught me to crochet. We often went out to lunch together, sharing family news, and talking of good times we shared as volunteers at the fair and prayer shawl groups. I will remember her as a special friend.
