Jeannie Hixson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 13, 2025.
Jean Thomas "Jeannie" Harrod Hixson, 53, of Lexington, Kentucky, passed away on June 11, 2025, after meeting a long illness with quiet strength and grace.

Jeannie was born on April 15, 1972, in Frankfort, Kentucky, to Doris Peden Harrod and the late Robert Harrod. She was a devoted wife to Marshall Hixson, her husband of 23 years, with whom she shared a joyful and loving marriage. She was also a devoted and nurturing mother to their son, Lance. To Jeannie, being Lance's mother was her greatest joy. She cherished every step of his journey and took deep pride in watching him grow into the remarkable man he is today. Jeannie shared a lifelong bond with her sister, Katherine Harrod Cain, a close and caring relationship with her brother-in-law, Jim Cain, and remained deeply connected to her mother, Doris. Her relationships with family and friends were rooted in loyalty, generosity, and unwavering love. She grew up in the First Baptist Church of Frankfort, where she developed the deep spiritual grounding that carried her throughout life.

Jeannie was a 1990 graduate of Franklin County High School and earned her undergraduate degree from Transylvania University in 1994, where she was a proud member of the Chi Omega sorority. She received her J.D. from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 1997. The friendships Jeannie formed during her years in high school, college, and law school remained a meaningful and lasting part of her life.

She began her legal career at Morgan & Pottinger in Louisville and later served as General Counsel at Farmers Capital Bank Corporation Frankfort, Kentucky. Jeannie was known as a trusted advisor and thoughtful professional who brought integrity and clarity to every aspect of her work.

Jeannie loved to travel and found joy in exploring new places, whether close to home or far from it. Music was always part of her life, especially live performances, which she embraced with great enthusiasm. She loved watching the Kentucky Wildcats play and especially looked forward to tailgating with friends and family. She also adored her dog, Rocky, and treasured their daily walks around the neighborhood. Despite the challenges she faced with her health, throughout her life Jeannie was always quick to laugh - a spontaneous giggle that was truly infectious - and she had a gift for creating joy in the everyday moments of life.

Jeannie was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.

In addition to her immediate family, Jeannie is survived by her aunt Maxie Depp and cousins Pede Depp and Dane Depp, along with her niece, Holly Warner and nephews, Alex Warner, Oliver Hixson, and Quinn Hixson.

A service to honor and celebrate Jeannie's life will be held at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home at 3421 Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, Kentucky on Tuesday, June 17. Visitation will take place from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm with a Celebration of Life service at 2:30. There will be no graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The MD Anderson Cancer Center at gifts.mdanderson.org or the American Cancer Society at cancer.org/donate.

Jeannie´s laugh and smile were infectious! I enjoyed our many adventures in high school (many of which are under strict secrecy). Jeannie was a friend to all - talented, funny, crazy smart, kind and always smiling! She was a light to everyone who knew her and I am still blessed over 35 years later to have been able to call her my friend!

Rest in Peace, Jeannie! Although we are all so very sad to have lost you, the heavens just got an amazing angel!

I am so saddened to learn of Jeannie´s passing. I had the privilege of working with Jeannie when she was General Counsel for Farmers Capital Bank Corporation. She was always a bright light, smiling, kind, uplifting and supportive. I remember when she received her initial diagnosis, the subsequent treatments, other recurrences and more treatments..she faced it all with quiet but resilient strength and courage. Even though a time came when she needed to step out of her career role and focus on her health and family, I continued to follow much of her journey through Caring Bridge and FB. She loved her family and talked about them frequently. She was extremely good at what she did in her legal career; she was an even better person, Jeannie was a friend to all that knew her and an inspiration to all. She will be very missed. Prayers are lifted for comfort and peace beyond all understanding for her beloved family and all that loved her.

I met Jeannie through Jessica Hull O´Daniel when they were at Transy. She was the "mother hen" of their group - one time when we were having a little too much fun, Jeannie ran to Arby´s for sandwiches trying to "sober us up a little" so we could make it through the rest of the night´s festivities She was always warm, friendly, funny, calming in nature, smart, and fun to be around. She will be missed by so many. We were all blessed to know Jeannie. Sending so much love, hugs and prayers to you Marshall and Lance. I know she will always remain close to you and be by your side.
