Jeffrey Mathews Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 27, 2023.
Jeffrey Brent Mathews of Portland, Oregon, age 53, passed away on April 17th, 2023. Jeff was born January 27th, 1970, to Mary Lee (Tesman) and Murphy Mathews in Midland, Michigan. Jeff and his sister, Michelle, were raised in Lansing. He graduated from Sexton High School (class of '88), then attended Michigan State University and graduated with a BA in English in 1992.

In 1993 Jeff moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. He worked in logistics, but his true callings were cooking and writing. He put these passions together and started a food blog called A Dork and His Pork. During this time, he connected with a club of bloggers and foodies in the city and those individuals became among the dearest of his friends. Later, Jeff's considerable storytelling skills graduated him from the ranks of Cincinnati Bloggers to become a freelance restaurant critic for Cincinnati Magazine.

In 2017 Jeff's adventures brought him to Portland, Oregon where he concentrated on his writing. He loved living on the west coast and enjoyed the food and music culture of the city. Jeff loved Cannon Beach and traveled there whenever he could.

Jeff is predeceased by his mother, Mary Lee. He is survived by his father Murphy Mathews (Marilyn), sister Michelle Mathews, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Jeff is also survived by many close friends who he loved and cared for passionately without reserve. To be in his orbit was an incredible honor.
