Jimmy Barton Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 21, 2025.
Jimmy Ray Barton, 78, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2025, in Carrollton, Texas. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and friend to many, Jimmy lived a life marked by service, adventure, and unwavering love for his family and community.

Born on June 1, 1946, in Longview, Texas, Jimmy grew up with strong roots in East Texas. He pursued higher education at Kilgore Junior College before earning his accounting degree from the University of North Texas. His early career began in accounting-he was known for helping others during tax season-but it was in 1989 that he found his true calling when he launched Jigsaw Travel. Through this business, Jimmy combined his professional skills with his passion for exploration. Helping others plan their journeys while embarking on countless adventures himself brought him immense joy.

Jimmy proudly served four years in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. His time in the military instilled in him a deep sense of duty and patriotism that remained with him throughout his life. Following his service, he settled into civilian life with a commitment to faith and family.

For over four decades, Jimmy was a faithful member of First Baptist Church The Colony. He served as a Deacon and took great pride in supporting the church's operations by counting offerings and collecting Sunday school records for more than 35 years. His dedication to his church community reflected the strength of his faith and his desire to serve others.

Jimmy had an enduring love for sports-he followed everything from baseball and football to golf and even the Tour de France. A loyal fan of the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys, he also collected Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine with enthusiasm. Whether it was watching a game or discussing stats with friends and family, sports were one of Jimmy's greatest joys.

Travel was another passion that defined Jimmy's life. Whether by plane, train, automobile, or-his favorite-boat cruises, he relished every opportunity to explore new places. His adventures were not just about destinations but about creating memories with those he loved.

Above all else, Jimmy cherished his family. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Jane Barton; son Jeremy Barton; daughter Jana Jones; son-in-law Dakota Jones; grandchildren Alana Williams-Jones, Michaela Jeffrey, Ella Jones, and Joshua Jones; sisters Shelia Gilliam and Jeanie Meadows; brother-in-law Donny Meadows; brother Johnny Neuville; sister-in-law Terrie Neuville;sister in law Marilyn Shocky; along with many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews who brought him endless pride.

He now joins in rest his parents Alida Lanelle Barton and Harry Barton; stepmother Melody Neuville; stepfather David Neuville; and brother James Neuville.

A combined viewing and visitation will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 10:15 AM at Bethel Fellowship located at 6700 Main St Ste 100 in The Colony, Texas. Funeral services will follow at the same location from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM. Burial will take place at Dallas - Fort Worth National Cemetery at 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy in Dallas at 2:00 PM. Attendees are kindly asked to arrive by 1:40 PM.

Jimmy Ray Barton leaves behind a legacy of faithfulness-to God, country, family, and friends-and a lifetime filled with laughter, travel, sportsmanship, and love. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.

I enjoyed reading this wonderful obituary. I didn't know him, but his son-in-law, Dakota Jones is our nephew. We love Jana, Dakota, and their children. I wish I had known Jimmy. It sounds like he was a great person.
