Joann J. Volpe Cheatle, age 88, passed away Saturday, July 17, 2010, at Saint Mary's Home of Erie. She was born in Brockway, Pa. on July 5, 1922, the daughter of the late Frank and Julia Trunzo Volpe. Joann was a graduate of the Brockway High School Class of 1940, and had been a press operator at the Keystone Carbon Company in St. Mary's for many years. She was a member of Saint George Church, and enjoyed gardening, animals, reading, horseback riding, and especially her dog Mitzie. She was a member of the Miracle Mile, Salvation Army and the Erie Health and Aging Senior Citizens. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Richard F. Cheatle, whom she married May 19, 1943, also five brothers, John, Joseph, Guido, David and Ronald Volpe. Survivors include two daughters, Georgann Richard, of Erie, and her dear friend, Vito Giriunas, of Cleveland, Ohio, and Diane Schreiber and her husband Benjamin, of St. Mary's, Pa.; three grandchildren, Anissa Vollmer, husband Craig, Thomas Schrieber, and Benjamin Schreiber, Jr.; two great grandchildren, Blake and Christian Vollmer, all of St. Mary's. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Friends are invited to call at the Brugger Home For Funerals 1595 West 38th Street at Greengarden Boulevard, Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held there Thursday at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. George Church, 5145 Peach St., at 9:30 a.m. Committal services will follow at St. Mary's, Pa. Catholic Cemetery at 1:45 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society, 2707 Interchange Rd., 16506. Condolences at www.bruggerfuneralhomes.com

Georgie,
Our hearts go out to you on the loss of your mom and our prayers are with you during this time of sadness.
There is little that one can say to take away the loss you are feeling at this time. May your wonderful memories of your mom live with you and give you comfort in this time of loss and bring you peace in the years ahead.
Your mom was a kind hearted and loving person who will be missed by everyone who knew her. We are so glad that we had such a wonderful visit with her last week.
